I just received this email from Club Millionaire: Dear Club Millionaire Members,
Due to circumstances beyond our control, we are sorry to announce that, as of Tuesday, December 6, 2011, all activity related to Club Millionaire will be discontinued. We apologize for any disappointment this may cause and thank you for your participation of the Club. In the coming months, we will be exploring other options related to development and operation of a new Millionaire rewards program. Should a new Millionaire club be launched, please be assured that any points you've accumulated, thus far, will be transferred into the new program.
We appreciate your loyalty to "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" and hope you will continue to be an active viewer of the program. The Club Millionaire website has also been taken down. This was all very sudden, and it doesn't seem that this was a planned move on Disney's part. I'm not sure if there is a legal issue afoot (although that's what I suspect, due to the speed and abrupt nature of the shutdown) or if the powers-that-be were dissatisfied with the project and pulled the plug. Either way, Club Millionaire is no more.

I'm guessing legal issues since it happened so fast. I have no idea what kind of legal problems they could possibly be facing, but I'm sure they'll come up with something new in no time!

I'm glad Millionaire took it with ease (seemingly) and allowed compensation for all current members. I didn't do it though, but I assume many of the members that registered on the forum only for Club Millionaire codes will be upset about this.

This is a wild guess but it maybe that people that watch on this forum and other sites for the codes making the viewers that watch the show are less than the people who enter codes in everyday. Therefore making the club millionaire unfair to the people who watch millionaire and enter in the codes in while others look on sites like this one for the codes. I'm not trying to offend anyone its just that there were more members entering the codes than actually watching the show.

Actually that might be true, this was most likely intended to attract more non-millionaire watchers to watch millionaire more often. However, if this is the case, I think Millionaire should have realized there was going to be some way people would get away with not watching the show and getting the codes... which is indeed unfair. I bet they saw a large uproar early on in ratings and maybe a gradual downgrade from that uproar because now people don't need to watch Millionaire to get the codes.

I don't think it was because of people not watching the show, not with the urgency they took in removing the program. They average several million viewers per episode and there are far, far (very far) less that enter codes daily. With them removing it with no notice but still airing the codes during the episodes, it was most likely something legal. Another guess could be that the company that was administrating the program screwed the pooch and filed bankruptcy, got in a legal mess or something else that forced them to stop all rewards programs. They said it was out of their control, so my new assumption is that it had something to do with events along those lines.
As for them compensating all current club members: I don't know what you mean by this. They only said *IF* they start a new program that current points would carry over, did they not? That's not really a compensation, more of a contingent promise which is still better than nothing of course. The people that would be most upset about this would be the ones who shopped through the website so gain more points and now have nothing to show for it.

Mech pretty much nailed this one on the head. I'd say the company behind Club Millionaire either was struggling behind the scenes or ran into legal trouble while operating the club (possibly having to do with prize redemption or some other legal danger zone, such as the contest-like nature of the game). It should be noted here that Disney was not the company responsible for the club, and has such had no real ability to control the damage once the club ran into problems. It should also be noted that other game show play-at-home games have experienced legal troubles in recent years - the "Deal or No Deal" lucky case game comes to mind.

It's very sad that Club Millionaire has to come to a close so soon. I was even gonna join the club in like late Season 11. But, yeah, I understand the clearly why they need to get rid of it. It would have been nice to get to see another contestant on the show, that got to go to New York to play, because of Club Millionaire. You know the one person that did, EPIC FAIL!!!!! Missed the 1st question thanks to approx. 50% of the audience. Hopefully, Millionaire will get something up and running. Someone at about.com questioned and received this statement: The third party company that operated the Club and its website was no longer able to fulfill their agreement. Valleycrest Productions is ensuring that any outstanding prizes due to Club contest winners are fulfilled. We are exploring the possibility of continuing the Club with another partner, but until that decision is made, all Club activity has been discontinued. If and when a new Millionaire Club gets underway, any accumulated member points would transfer into the new Club.gameshows.about.com/b/2011/12/12/club-millionaire-update.htm
