For years I have watch Millionaire in the UK and alway thought that Chris was a very good host, even when I was very young. He always had a way of injecting tension into the show and at the same time some humor. I always loved his catchphrase "...but we don't want to give you that"
After around 15 years of Millionaire, I have started to wonder if Chris were to retire who could fill his shoes. I suppose the most pressing question is how much longer will UK Millionaire survive? After the appalling The People Play specials in May it seems to me that due to low TV rating ITV will never commission anymore "People Play" specials. It will most likely go back to the dreaded Celebrity specials. In my opinion UK Millionaire may not even last 1 more year.
This looks bleak but lets say theoretically that Millionaire was still continue and Chris were to retire, who could replace him as host? One possibility is that ITV could approach a host like Davina Mccall to host after her succes with "million pound drop" and "five minutes to a fortune" Unfortunately Davina may be unable to host Millionaire due to her contract with Channel 4.
Can anybody suggest a better British host that could serve as Chris Tarrant's successor if he were to retire?

Davina McCall as a host of WWTBAM? Puh-lease! Okay, she did a great job with Big Brother, she is doing a great job with TMPD and I absolutely love her to bits, but the Millionaire climax does not suit her. It's a completely different sort of tension. I can't imagine Davina in her sparkling dress entering the dark set of Millionaire - she'd be brighter than all the lights altogether! It's not the host that needs a replacement. It seems that the production team has forgotten how to make this show good. After a successful 2010 Xmas episode, we had nothing of importance, then the 2012 People Play, and then nothing good again. It's like they manage to get that one or two episodes right, then they fail badly.

Yeah I guess your right. I am just after watching some some Million pound drop after writing this post and she really does not fit in well with the set, the music or the drama. Your right in saying it's not the host that needs replacing, I am simply asking that if Chris were to retire under his own free will who could become the new host of UK Millionaire? Like Meredith and Cedric the Entertainer. Chris is doing a spectacular job and long may he continue to do so. It's rather hard to predict who could succeed Chris if he were to retire as there are few "game show hosts" that would fit into the dynamics of the show. PYLguy P.S- After watching MPD, I am quite embarrassed in suggesting Davina as a successor to Chris, Davina may be good but Chris is on a totally different level from her.

Personally it should be someone we've never heard of. People like Davina have already made a success in Game Shows, we should give someone who we've never heard of who was good in auditions to do it. It shouldn't always have to be a celebrity.

This would be a NIGHTMARE situation. Millionaire would never be the same but I think having some sort of audition test given to NORMAL people and the winner gets the job sounds good to me. To clarify I would NOT like to see Chris Tarrant retire

Honestly, I couldn't really see British Millionaire without Chris. It's kind of like Weakest Link, the show's been on so long that Chris has become all but linked with Millionaire. I would think when he leaves, the show leaves with him. Then again, stranger things have happened...
That said, if they were to pick a new host, I would go... wow, this is actually a tough question.
Opinion question, everyone: How do any of you think Noel Edmonds would do as host? Jerry Springer? (to be fair, Jerry hosted the British version of Greed, and IMO, wasn't half bad doing it)

I do not think Noel Edmonds would even have a chance of hosting millionaire because he has a contract with channel 4 but if he was allowed to have a go, he would be terrible. Millionaire is way different to deal or no deal

I know none of us can see Millionaire without Chris, but they guy has to retire one day, and we can't just wollow in the past. I couldn't think of Millionaire without Regis, but when I started to watch the syndicated version with Meredith, she did a great job too. We need to give other people the chance. I'm sure if they're rubbish they'll be kicked off anyway.

I know this would never happen, but I'd like to see Stephen Fry host "Millionaire" in the UK. I feel like his style would lend itself well to the format.
Another great host for "Millionaire," both in the US and the UK, would be Craig Ferguson. Like Regis, he's very amusing with ordinary folk, but he also has an encyclopedic mind when it comes to topics like history and literature. He would never have the time while hosting "The Late Late Show," but I bet he has a game show hosting gig in his future someday.

Huh, I've never given a thought about them being hosts. It would be very interesting to see them as hosts.

youtu.be/iay5L8KVW78 (Skip to 3:50) The practice host featured here (I don't know nor the clip mentions his name) could be a good replacement

Personally, if Chris were to retire ( ) then I think Andrew Castle would make a good replacement for him... Andrew hosted the now long since dead ' Divided' and he brought a certain grittiness to TV but its a tough one to call...

What about Michael Davies? Nobody in their right mind is going to go from Executive Producer to host.
