Does anyone know a good video editing software that allows you to add graphics to the video? I'm wanting to record myself narrating my GSN RPG Millionaire game and add graphics to the video, i.e. the money ladder, questions, and win straps. Does anyone know how this can be accomplished? And preferably without having to purchase a fancy software? (I wasn't sure which forum to ask this in, so I figured creativity would be my best bet.)

Well, you don't exactly have to purchase the software... I guess you could just find a copy of it on the interwebs, but mind you, that would be illegal (wink wink). Anyways, I found Sony Vegas does a brilliant job at adding all sorts of OSD graphics. Have a look at this thread to see what it can do, although it does require a little bit of practice to achieve this sort of an outcome (for me it was about 18 months of self-teaching. When I say that, I mean I've watched about 2 tutorials and then figured out the rest myself by trial and improvement). Other software you could have a look at is Adobe After Effects, although I find it much harder than SV. Also, if you want to create/edit your own graphics, you might need Photoshop, however GIMP is a freeware and it does roughly the same job. Hope that helped. I'm not an expert, but if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Nag me -Adam

Thank you! I will definitely look into them. Well, heck, I have all the basic graphics as pictures, so I guess a better question would be just simply putting still photos over a video. That I'm sure requires Photoshop, but again, unsure of the video editing software to use, so I'll look up the ones you've mentioned. Again, thanks.

Hi MF1, Adding the layovers in real time as the video is being recorded is significantly more complicated and involved, so I will assume you're wanting to do it in post production. I did this a long time ago for various little projects and have experience with it, and it can be quite fun! As Adasiekkk mentioned earlier, Vegas and AE are your best choices for this. I personally prefer AE for any type of motion graphic editing as it's quite powerful, however it's not really suitable for final step production. You generally do all of the motion editing and then compile that and your sound track in a different program for the final cut (I use Vegas for this step; AE isn't really designed to work with sound.) Vegas is great, but I feel it's much more restricted than AE. AE also is more powerful on chromakey effects (green screen work) in my opinion, if you're trying to use any of that. Here's a few examples in case they are of any help in giving you an idea: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVe8LWSR1iMEdit I made for Sam Murray to replace his "Tournament Leader" overlay with his "Millionaire" one www.youtube.com/watch?v=NwjSrb4A-ncOld Season 9 punter that was used maybe once www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzzid8U3sFQSeason 9 punter that was used regularly www.youtube.com/watch?v=X32MBTBC3KsDid an episode re-cap in the beginning (0:01 - 0:15) using a "Last time on Millionaire" edit These were all done with After Effects and compiled in Sony Vegas for the final push. -Mech
