This is a format that I've been playing around with in my head to use in an upcoming RPG, but I'd like your thoughts to see if it can be improved in any way.
If you're familiar with LearnedLeague, you kind of already have an idea how this is going to work. Basically, two people will play the Shuffle format at the same time--the only difference is, the money amounts are not shuffled ahead of time. Instead, both players will get the randomized category tree for Round 1, but based on what they know about their opponent's strengths and weaknesses, they will assign the different money amounts to each question for their opponent. Both players will then lock in their answers in secret. Obviously, if you're right, whatever money your opponent attached to that particular question goes into your bank. If you're wrong, you just lose the money, you're not knocked out of the game. By extension, there's also no walking away in this game.
You'll get the original three lifelines in this game (50:50, ATA, PAF). If you ask for one, the results will be revealed to you and you alone (unless, of course, both players ask for the same lifeline at the same time).
Whoever has the most money at the end of Round 1 goes on to Classic Millionaire. Ties are broken by the number of correct answers, then the number of lifelines used. If the game is still tied after both tiebreakers, Fastest Finger questions will be played until there is a winner.
Round Two is played just like the show, but the player will receive one Jump in addition to whatever lifelines are still left over from Round One.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Questions? Let me know what you think--I really want to try this.

Some of the gameplay seems like the Hot Seat format. It would be a nice twist in the Shuffle format though.

This sounds like a hybrid manbaby of Duel and Millionaire, but I really like the sound of it. If I could make a couple of suggestions: 1. I don't think that Phone A Friend would be a viable lifeline in a format like this. It would be too long and would be weird for the other person to be talking to someone the other contestant can't hear. I would suggest replacing it with a Start the Clock lifeline *working title*. What it would do, would start a 30 second clock for the other player but leave you with as much time as you want. 2. Make the losing contestant keep half their bank or go home with $1,000 as a consolation prize. 3. Give the people the category for the cash at the start of the question or before the show starts to add tension. But over all, I think this could be a very unique change. Call it Millionaire Verses!

Something I realized ahead of time that I didn't specify in my original outline of the rules--the dollar figures are assigned in secret before the first question is even played. You may have picked up on that already, but I thought I'd clear that up in case there was any confusion. Kimarough, that's an interesting idea--I think Duel called it a Press? My only gripe with it is that it almost defeats the point of playing defense. If you use it on a question in a category in which your opponent's weak anyway, chances are you've assigned either $25,000 or $15,000 to that question, so they'd probably get it wrong anyway. Likewise, if you press them on an easy question, it's not that much of a financial gain either way, since you probably made that one the $100 question. I do understand your points about PAF, though. Now that I've brought up the above, perhaps instead of a PAF (or even ATA), I'd put in a Double Money lifeline instead. You confirm your Double Money before locking in your answer, and if you're right, you double whatever figure your opponent assigned to this question. (The only caveat would be that if you'd already used a lifeline on that question, you couldn't double it. The opposite is also true--if you Double, you can't then use, say, 50:50.) And then, the big help--if you win without using your Double, the Double Money becomes Double Dip in Round 2.

Woowho, if you become a RPG host, use this format. I really want to see it in action!

Okay. I vote that woowho has the host position in the next RPG. You can't guarantee that will happen though. What if another member signed up for host before woowho? We usually don't have an idea when sign ups are going to start.

The previous statement came out wrong. Let me rephrase that. I say that no one else should sign up to be host for the next RPG when it is announced. Let woowho take the role and do this RPG.

Kimarough101- Woowho should keep it for himself? Sounds good to me Woowho- See if RegisFan can reserve you as host in RPG 17.

I would rather host the first instance of this format myself, thank you very much! And RegisFan--does that fly, reserving someone as host before the RPG signup thread goes up? I doubt it does, so it's not like it matters to me either way...I'll just have to have the "fastest fingers first." Har har.

I think playing with the ENTIRE Shuffle Millionaire can get a bit tedious and boring. If I can make a slight tweak to your format, I think the money tree should look like this
$0 $100 $250 $500 $1,000 - Verses Millionaire $2,500 $5,000 -------- $10,000 $25,000 $50,000 $75,000- Safe Level $125,000 - Classic Millionaire $250,000 $500,000 $1 Million In the classic Millionaire, the contestant gains Ask the Expert or Phone A Friend and the Double Down turns into a Double Dip. I think that this tree could be one that could be used and if the contestant has more than $10,000 when they start Classic Millionaire, than they automatically start playing for $20,000.
I am just trying to help and I think this concept can go a long way. I REALLY like it!!

So that would make it impossible to earn $10K or more. And woowho, I really think that this is a good idea.

Kimarough, with all due respect, ummm...huh?
First of all, why the divide between $5K and $10K? What is the "Verses (sic) Millionaire" at the $1,000 level? And why does classic Millionaire start well after the divide?
As futuregshost pointed out, with that kind of tree, it's impossible to earn more than $10K with just 7 questions. And having the $0 is a good idea, but if Double Down (I like that name, by the way) is in play, it would seem a little cruel to have someone unknowingly waste the lifeline when they badly need to catch up.
