I think that it's about 40% because I saw the other day that a woman won $2 mil by playing the lottery with the lucky numbers from a fortune cookie. She ended up coming down to $1.2 mil after taxes.

It depends on how much money you make. People who make less money pay a lower percentage than people who make more money.

I live in Canada, and all winnings in any given contest are tax-free. If there was a Powerball lottery here in Canada, all the winnings would belong to the player, unlike in the U.S.
There was a Canadian edition of Millionaire, but that's for another thread.
