I've noticed that when watching the older clips of Super Millionaire, that I'm actually quite fascinated how the the lights down effect is when they enter the final tier of questions where the big money is at. Example:
I'm just fascinated by that camera angle and how the lights are!!!! But at the same time, if you watch Bob-O's run, the colors of the stairs that are behind Regis and the contestant change with every question. Not a huge fan of that, especially since it turns to light blue for the $2.5 Million Dollar question.
My question is, should anything have been changed, or would you do anything different to add more of an exciting/gut-wrenching feel to the environment surrounding the contestant and the host?

They should've made it pitch black at the $10m question.

I did always feel like the progression of colors for the stairs was a little backwards, going from dark blue to light blue. I imagine $5 million would have been sort of a sky blue, but I have to think $10 million would go back to black.

I couldn't agree more, it is obviously important to make the $10 Million Dollar question dark black so that it shows how important and significant the value is, I mean we are talking about a Super Millionaire here! Although the typical studio lighting is good, I feel that they could have done something even better to show off the new show.
Offtopic - In the video after he answers the question correctly the hexagon showing what amount of money the question was worth slides off the screen, however notably the tip of the shape is still visible. I do not believe that this is normal, but I can stand to be corrected!

Well, in series two (May episodes,) the entryway where Regis stands during the Fastest Finger questions is completely blacked out while in The Next Dimension. Also, the rotating spotlights above the Hot Seat, swiftly swings down and they're a light purple.

It looks better when it's pitch black!

If GSN decides to air the Super Millionaire episodes again, one detail you will also notice is that in the blackened entryway, the moving spotlights are a very dark blue. Why in the world would I notice this stuff? lol

One thing I liked about the second run was when the transition to the Next Dimension was made, the pillars were blue and red, which really looked nice and dramatic. I didn't think that the white and orange from the first run worked well.

Not a huge fan of that, especially since it turns to light blue for the $2.5 Million Dollar question. I think it adds to the surreality of where he is in the game. Notice the color is light blue, but the brightness would say otherwise: It's still dull (not dark) enough to pertain to the intensity of the new dimension. It could also be a symbol of how Bob-O is clearly more than a mortal, because nobody before him had ever played for $2.5m. Obviously the $10m question would all be pitch black (possibly even blotting out any companions you brought), but for the $5m question, I figured the staircases would have all blue removed, instead going a noticeable but dull gray, something that would say: "You have abandoned all pretense. Don't lose all this money." Funny, I was considering how the entryway could've turned pitch black while in the new dimension before I myself noticed it. I think it would work better from $2.5m on up, with the aforementioned reason that only a supreme being like Bob-O could reach it.

If they could do even an off-white setting without it resulting in over-illuminating the set, I think that would fit the best.
Perhaps one of our more artistic members would like to try and recreate these, so we could see how they would look.

What's with the Lights Down effect? I kinda liked it in Super Millionaire. I wish they could renew the season again.
