Interesting note for future reference. I will be sticking to the newer layout.

Yes, well I imagine using the screen layout of later years would likely be easier as it is arguably less complicated. For some help, look on youtube for Millionaire host screen in the search box and you will find some rather accurate versions put together by some fans of Millionaire, including the classic and notably the Clock format

While we are at it, check this video I found while looking for the Indonesian version of WWTBAM. It shows the first host monitor in a very close range:

That shot right there did it for me! I knew there were two boxes above the question and next to the money tree...couldn't quite tell how they worked. Now it seems obvious. Green stays on screen if it's correct, red stays on screen if it's wrong. Only thing I'm still curious about is the one Regis had for the original run. It was still slightly different from this one. I think UK started out w/ the same one Regis had throughout the primetime run, too.

Well, I think that you're talking about this one : Host side Contestant side (Yes, this is really curious between Host and Contestant screens !) Now, zoom in... Principally on the Host screen : Another pic'... : Seems, (excluding contestant side), that the host screen is the same... This seems clearer for you ? FinalAnswer19 ?

Now, zoom in... Principally on the Host screen : I just love this state of play... The "contestant-with-no-name" has got no lifelines, it's still at Q1 (though you can see a bit of the orange bar at the bottom), and yet manages to get a question correct (green indicator) and win the top prize!

They used the STFU-Give-Me-A-Million-Dollars lifeline.

Guess I'm mistaking. I could have sworn I saw somewhere it was a yellow and black box as opposed to a green and red box. Good find, @millichris!

This thread is fascinating. I doubt you'll find a more detailed analysis of WWTBAM host screens anywhere else. There are a lot of really sharp observations in this thread regarding nuances of the various host screens that I've never even noticed before.

Looking at the below image, I am wondering if anyone knows if on Hot Seat the contestant gets to see how much time they have left for each question. I am also interested in the same info for the UK and US clock variants.

Looking at the below image, I am wondering if anyone knows if on Hot Seat the contestant gets to see how much time they have left for each question. I am also interested in the same info for the UK and US clock variants. Those who created the software would be very, very, very ass*ole to NOT put a timer to the contestant screen ! Well this is my probability : this interface looks like at an old version (I estimate between 2007 and 2010... at the earliest 2006...) Check this picture from Imascope360 a quick look to the contestant screen in France, during the end of classic era : At this time, there's no red square to display a time limit... You'll see what I mean below in this post... So If there's no red square here : Maybe, the time limit would be displayed in the large area here : What I would mean by red square, the actual version of the software display a time limit in a red square (Yes I've written two times "red square" ! No wait ! three times now ! ) : It works exactly like in this simulation that I've made about 1 year ago : Now for the U.S. one, just look this picture and you'll see a green bar in the top right corner of the screen... This is the timer : (Note : this bar turns to red when the time reached 10 seconds left)

Take a look at this image (bottom row, second screen from the left): Because of technical reasons (there has to be space for both the status boxes and the pronunciation help -- that little gap between the question and answers layout and the status boxes), the time indicator is pushed "downwards". Also, in this last incarnation, the box that indicates the contestant's name has no border on it (to be more precise, the "border" is just two vertical bars at both sides.

Oh this thread brings me back to where I tried recreating the host screens to as close as I possibly can. Mech was my inspiration to doing so when I saw his video of his software- showcasing his host screen software.
Carefully scrutinizing any video that shows a glimpse of the host screen was tough but I have already uploaded videos on my Youtube of them. Although those are pretty old.
I remember back in August of 2009, there was an episode of Live With Regis & Kelly where Regis was at the studio and the camera gave us a full view of his host screen. He even goes onto to explain the technical side of it too! That was like Christmas to me. Needless to say when I got a copy of that episode, I went straight to work and try to recreate it. One thing I wish I could've avoided doing was formatting everything to fit in a 16:9 ratio when the host screens were fitted in a 4:3. Luckily this is easily fixable for me.
Who knows, I may pull up the original PSD files someday and have them up on the fangames forum for others to use. I remember those recreations were pretty darn close. Since I'm not using them, someone can sure have some use out of them.
I really wonder what that gray box was that was above the "Amount you lose" box (The Cyan one). What if that box was a cue box? Like it prompts Regis to go on break or the episode is ending. I know in future revisions of the host screen, specifically Meredith's run; when she's prompted to go on a break, a bold yellow text appears on below the boxes that would say something like "BREAK".

I remember seeing on some episodes on Hot Seat that a Phone a Friend like clock would appear on the contestants screen. So they did have a clue on how much time they had, and the fact Eddie would tell the contestant when they had 10 seconds left meant the contestant was in little danger of running out of time (although this has happened once from what I have seen).
