Back in September of 1998 ITV gave us the most popular game show ever, but over the years the concept of WWTBAM was compromised as technology changed and people changed.
One of the biggest hits to WWTBAM was when it got sold from celedor to sony and sony decided to change everything that was good about the show. They changed everything from the graphics to the set.
In my opinion the biggest demise happend in 2010 , when the 'big bad clock' was introduced which just removed the drama and made WWTBAM just another game show. By changing the money tree (and everything else) the show lost its familiarity and soon the show was only being broadcasted on special occasions and then in Feburary 2014 the show was silently put in in the ITV cupboard and to be forgotten for ever.

Millionaire is good, just not as good as it was when it first debuted in the UK in 1998, and in the US a year later. It's still very popular, it's just not the same Millionaire we're accustomed to. That's probably why it's lost popularity and, in ITV's case, got cancelled.

Who said it's gone FOREVER? It may return to our screens one day, like other gameshows like 15-1, also note that in Chris' Final Answer, he said Ingram Wilcox was the fifth and most recent millionaire, not fifth and final. So it may return one day.

Melodramatic post is melodramatic.
Even if the UK clock format was a downgrade from the classic format, it was still done much better than the US clock format. Heck, I actually liked how the UK did it. Speed through those early questions so we can hurry up and get to the good stuff.
And to say it was the format change that killed it is a little ridiculous. Let's not forget the show was Twelve Flippin' Years Old when that happened. Game shows that last longer than five years are dinosaurs. Just because Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune have been around forever and a day doesn't mean that a game show has failed if it doesn't last as long.

All of your points are true and the main factor I think of the shows current death is that technology has changed and people don't really watch gameshows anymore and just watch endless repeats of the only way is essex

I feel if phones and porn wasn't invented, this show would still be gossip even if a clock or that stupid shuffling was introduced.
Also, not only Essex, but only shows the person loves and I feel on demand should go and only have a temporary recorded show so they could still try watching something different.

Yeah, the world has changed since WWTBAM first aired for example :
1) Phone a freinds being able to use google to find out the answers for their contestants , which sort-of ruins the concept of a phone a freind. 2) Being able to fast foward the television and be able to find out if the contestant won that question. 3)The fact that society has changed as a whole, and smart phones has been invented and the "shoutabilty" that David Briggs talked about has died.

I agree with you 100%. A whole lot has changed since September 1998.
