I came across the promo today advertising the premiere of WWTBAM UK in 1998.
But one thing I'm curious to get some clarification is what Chris meant when he said, "I'll even help you!". What was he meaning by that?

Allegedly, they were planning on including an extra lifeline which allowed the contestant to ask the host, but I guess that idea was scrapped before the first episode was recorded.

I've seen that promo too. Kind of an odd way to promote a game show. Seems to have worked, I mean, how else do you think were 10 contestants able to make it to the first episode?

I took the "I'll even help" as a reference to 50:50. I do think others have mentioned that in the early plannings, Chris was going to idly give advice to the player, but the contestant had to be careful because that advice may have been a bluff.

A mischievous host would have given the game an entirely different feel. That's a really interesting concept!

That makes sense, relating it to 50:50, seeing as the host is "helping" by removing two wrong answers.
