Since the show first debuted in the UK in 1998, we've been introduced the classic Money Tree that we all know and love and that had been used in probably all the international versions of Millionaire. Today, I'd like to discuss how it evolved over the years and why they had been different in other international versions.
In the UK pilot episode of WWTBAM, the money tree was quite similar to the original - this is how it looked like:
£1 MILLION
£500,000
£250,000
£125,000
£64,000
£32,000
£16,000
£8,000
£4,000
£2,000
£1,000
£500
£100
£10
£1
There hadnt't been many differences between this money tree and the one that we got to see in the first official episode of the show.
As we all know, this is how it had been designed:
£1 MILLION
£500,000
£250,000
£125,000
£64,000
£32,000
£16,000
£8,000
£4,000
£2,000
£1,000
£500
£300
£200
£100
Ever since the money tree had been implemented into the show, about every international version started using it - and that went on for a long time. That is, until the Rave Format was brought into the UK and made a new money tree to be used for WWTBAM.
So it had been implemented in many of the international versions, but some of the countries decided to either make a money tree similar to the previous one or modified the UK money tree.
At this point, it went through a lot of changes: different amount of questions, new amounts, new lifelines, new characteristics and even different (or exclusive) music! But NONE of the international money trees have shown the categories of the questions except for the US Clock format, which was also continued in the US Shuffle format in a different way.
What do you think about the evolution of the money tree? Which of the ones used is your favorite one? Do you think the characteristics of the money trees should be like the original one or should they have their own, unique structure?
