Hey Guys! I am new to the boards, but I am a huge fan of Millionaire and I read that Jeremy Clarkson will host it again in the UK. Do you guys think that I could apply while I am living in Hungary or did they have conditions that you have to have an English citizenship? Thanks in advance!

I‘m not sure if you‘d have to be a citizen but most game shows require you to be at least a resident of the UK.

I'd imagine due to the EU Laws on Free Movement superseding the UK's own laws, you won't need to be a British national. However, you will almost certainly have to be a resident of either the UK, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man to be on the show. You'd probably have to be here for a few years at least before you're eligible to appear. Application forms from the last round of People Play epsiodes state: 'You must be resident and currently living in the United Kingdom', suggesting you would have to either be a citizen or a legal resident to apply. It also looks like you need to live here for at least 24 months to even apply for residency if you're from the EEA, but I may be wrong on this. (The rules are also rather complex, according to the Goverment's website.) Also, on the UK Government's website, they've said that any Permanent Residency documents from the EU won't be valid after Brexit in 2019 or whenever it actually happens, but that may be subject to change, I'd imagine. Thinking about it further, they would legally need to have a valid UK address to carry out the appropriate checks on all possible contestants. (DBS/CRB Checks, if you're currently applying for another show, etc.) Of course, there's been no official confirmation of the show returning yet, so there's obviously nothing on rules or eligibility. However, the chance of EU nations not currently living in the UK, IOM or Channel Islands being allowed to be on the show will be so infinitesimally small that it won't be worth looking to check, I'd say. In short, the answer is more than likely a no unless you've lived here long enough to be classed a permanent resident, which if you're currently living in Hungary, you won't be able without applying under future laws, assuming Brexit goes ahead as planned.

Were Paddy Spooner and Jeff Gross permanent residents when they were on?

I found Jeff Gross’ video from when he was on the UK version, and he says that he first saw Millionaire a few weeks after moving here, which means he could have moved here in around August 1998. Also, if he was living in the UK, that would have been his permanent address. After more research, it appears you are a legal resident if you spend 183 or more days of each year in the country. (Tax year April-March, not calendar year) It appears the residency card I was talking about simply proves this. As such, Gross would have been a UK Resident.
Not as sure about Spooner. Obviously he was eligible for the UK show due to him being a UK Citizen, and the dates work out for him spending enough of a tax year here too. As for the Australian version, I don’t think he was living there permanently due to him saying his visa was about to run about, but I expect the rules at the time may have been different in Australia than they are here now. Another thing is that he would have been a citizen of another Commonwealth country, so may have been able to waive certain rules due to this, although I’ve read that Commonwealth status is a lot more important for UK law than other member’s laws. These laws would also probably apply for when he was on the Irish show, as well as EU Laws maybe benefiting him.
