So we've discussed the lights down effects/positioning, now let's talk the actual camera positioning and the changes/additions that were made on the show over the few years that millionaire was on. Obviously this post would be REALLY long if I went over all the camera angles in general, so I'm going to focus on only the camera effects when the lights down happened.
From 1999 through about late 2000, the cameras never moved when the lights dimmed (except for getting in position for the lights down when a safe haven was reached), though I've noticed that the camera was angled lower for the most part in 1999. Either way, the camera stayed still when the lights went down:
Then in late 2000: They changed it so that the camera moved downward while the lights were still coming down for the 2nd and 3rd tier of questions:
Here's a couple of unique camera positions/angles as the lights are coming down, also from the year 2000. I've only seen these once in general:
The camera angle moves down, but it started much higher than normal, and ended where the camera is normally placed at the start of the lights down effect.
Here's probably the most unusual angle I've seen with Pat Thompson's run, though I really like it where the camera is placed VERY close to the spotlights in general, and is also at a much higher angle too:
Then we go into 2001 where a couple more angles are introduced, only seen in the higher tiers though:
The camera starts behind the left side of Regis, and zooms into the contestant. This effect was also done in reverse during Meredith's run (I believe only when a contestant won $50,000) where the camera would start behind the right side of the contestant, and lower down to capture the whole area, especially the big screen on the wall that would show that they won $50,000.
Speaking of Meredith:
This angle above gives you more of a perspective of what the audience sees.
One more unique angle from this time frame is especially when the celebrities were playing, it shows you how quickly the environment can get scary and also how much we should appreciate the way they were able to really darken the whole area surrounding the contestant:
Only other angle I can think of that was used was this unique angle in the 10th anniversary show where the camera lowered similar to the 2nd video that I posted above, but also zoomed into the contestant:
I thought I may have seen this angle used before but I can't remember.
I don't know if I'm missing any other angles/positions used, but either way, I really liked how they changed things up and used these different angles over the years. Can you guys think of any other exciting ways they could've positioned the cameras when the lights actually came down?
