I have found some names of International WWTBAM that say the wrong name, and I have translated them to say "Who wants to be a Millionaire". The output is what they SHOULD be. Country | Wrong Title | Corrected Title | Pahsto | کوم چای شیان وی؟ | څوک غواړي یو ملیونر وي؟
| Vietnam | Ai Là Triệu Phú
| Ai muốn trở thành một triệu phú?
| India | Kaun Banega Crorepati
| कौन करोड़पति बनना चाहता है (Who Wants to be a Millionaire)
| Finland | Haluatko miljonääriksi? | Kuka haluaa olla miljonääri?
| Germany | Wer wird Millionär?
| Wer möchte Millionärwerden?
| Sweeden | Postkodmiljonären
| Vem vill bli en miljonär?

Well, "wrong". The English title alludes to a Cole Porter song. That reference is already relatively obscure, and makes even less sense in other languages where the song and the movie it's from are pretty much unknown. As a speaker of German, I find "Wer möchte Millionär werden?" really clumsy. If you wanted to translate it absolutely literally, it would actually be "Wer möchte ein Millionär werden?", which is even worse. And the literal translation would make it difficult to create an aesthetically pleasing logo.
Translation is more than taking words and finding equivalents in another language. There are conventions and things that sound good in one language don't necessarily in others. That's one of the reasons why Google Translate is so frustratingly useless a lot of the time.
That said, some of the freer translations are truly terrible. Whoever came up with "Die Millionenshow" for the Austrian version should be fired. That one is just as bad as "The Millions Show" would be in English.

I partially agree and partially disagree with this. What I agree is that they give wrong titles if translated to English, but what I disagree is in your example. I think you translated the English title to other languages by using Google Translate. Google Translate is not 100% accurate because it does not consider the types of noun cases (nominative, accusative, instrumental, etc). speaking of how the international titles SHOULD be, I have the better suggestions, of course after considering the grammar, noun cases, and the position of the word "MILLIONAIRE" or "MILLION(S)". Actually, I have two suggestions for the show's title format - the "Who Wants to be(come) (a) Millionaire?" format
- the "Who Will be(come) (a) Millionaire?" format
: and remember, not all languages should have the indefinite article "a" before the word "Millionaire". and here are my conditions and terms: - If both the "wants to be(come) (a)" and the "will be(come) a" title formats can grammatically include the word "MILLIONAIRE" at the end, the preferred format should be the "wants to be(come)" format
- If the "wants to be(come) (a)" title format is the only one which can grammatically include the word "MILLIONAIRE" at the end, we have to choose it.
- If the "will be(come) a" title format is the only one which can grammatically include the word "MILLIONAIRE" at the end, we also have to choose it.
- If neither the "wants to be(come) (a)" and the "will be(come) a" title formats can grammatically include the word "MILLIONAIRE" at the end, willy nilly, we have to choose the "wants to be(come)" format.
so. in conclusion, that's what they SHOULD be (in my opinion)
Country | Current title | Suggested title | Current title translated to English | Suggested title translated to English | France | Qui veut gagner des millions? | Qui veut être millionnaire? | Who Wants to Win the Millions? | Who Wants to be a Millionaire? | Netherlands | Weekend Miljonairs | Wie wordt miljonair? | Weekend Millionaires | Who Will Become a Millionaire? | Finland | Haluatko miljonääriksi? | Kuka haluaa miljonääriksi? (miljonääriksi is translative case) | Do you want to become a millionaire? | Who Wants to become a Millionaire? | Vietnam | Ai là triệu phú? | Ai muốn thành triệu phú?
| Who is the millionaire? | Who Wants to be a Millionaire? | Arab world | من سيربح المليون؟
| من يريد أن يكون مليونيرا؟
| Who will win the million? | Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
| Czech | Chcete být milionářem?
| kdo chce být milionářem?
| Do you want to be a millionaire? | Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
| Poland | Milionerzy | kto chce być milionerem?
| Millionaires | Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
| Hungary | Legyen ön is milliomos
| Ki lesz milliomos? | Be a Millionaire! | Who will be a Millionaire? | Romania | Vrei să fii milionar?
| Cine vrea să fie milionar?
| Do you want to be a millionaire? | Who Wants to be a Millionaire? |

Lithuania had "Kas Laimės Milijoną", which translates into "Who'll win a million". They had a reason for the name change though. They didn't do "Who wants to be a millionaire", because there was already a show called "Who'll become a millionaire", and they didn't want legal problems. So sometimes name change is mandatory.

I have a feeling of 'Déjà vu'... I think that's a new concept on this forum?...
After Money Tree suggestion Arc, we have now Title suggestion Arc... What's next? Millionaire set designing suggestion Arc or Soundtrack suggestion Arc?
It makes me upset to see this kind of threads... Seriously, what's the point? I don't understand. Who cares about this kind of details? People can't just watch a show and accept what choices have been done for each countries?
Even if THIS is based on a kind of criticism thread, there's no way that whatever is said here, could change something on a specific international version... Again : choices belong to producers to determine what is the best.

Same case happens in Latvia. the Latvian version is called "Gribi būt miljonārs?" (Do you want to be a millionaire?) instead of "Kas grib būt miljonārs?".

They are careful even in small details like money tree or title. So later, do not ever complain anymore.

The point is, they feared it would be too similar. After all, they had an option to change the name to better suit the language and legality of the show, so I don't see why it should be "The CORRECT way".

Oh yeah, that. Pretty sure it's more of a complaint than a suggestion though.

As I know so far, Lai Van Sam decides to put the name as "Ai là triệu phú" because he thinks that "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" is too challenging.
