I suppose that most of you have read ITV’s announcement for the return of the show. The article also also presents the lifelines which include ALL three original ones and the new Ask the Host lifeline. For me personally, it is hilarious to imagine how the Phone a Friend lifeline, when used, will go down. They have explained that an actual security team will be with the contestant’s choice to supervise if they are receiving any external help (obviously the Internet). I mean do you imagine some kind of Hollywood strike squad invading the house “Go, go, go, we have an emergency lifeline!” Am I wrong for laughing ike an idiot alone with this? 😂😂😂

Phone a Friend never left the UK version. I didn’t know that cause I only watch the American and Greek version where Phone a Friend is long gone, so I assumed it was first eliminated from the British version. So did they actually send a team every time someone needed the lifeline?

So did they actually send a team every time someone needed the lifeline? What they did was they put the three phone a friend choices in a guarded room in the studio, so there's no chance of internet use. Australia did a similar thing for the Millionaire revival in 2007, they actually had a video feed in the room with the three choices and the contestant would then talk to the person they chose.

I'm starting to wonder if the German version is the only one where phone-a-friend still works exactly how it used to work - with all friends at home and merely keeping themselves available instead of being guarded, put into soundproof rooms, or anything like that.

So essentially the Phone a Friend lifeline became just a complicated way to achieve what is now known in the US as the “Plus 1” lifeline. The friend is a sitting in the audience and they are asked for help when the lifeline is used. I guess you could very well have 3 friends in the audience of which the contestant picks one for help. Those wouldn’t have a phone with them so as to check the Internet and the lifeline would become “Ask a Friend” and it would all be less complicated.

when I knew the American version threw out the Phone a Friend lifeline, I was thinking that the U.S. producers were like immature boys. why didn't they do the PaF exactly like the U.K. version? because the FFF was gone, it's actually fine to bring three potential PaFs backstage. I think this is the thing American version did (and still does) not do and it's a big mistake.

When Phone a Friend returned to Millionaire in the Philippines to coincide the 12 question format, it followed the 3 friends rule, except they are not in the backstage.

So they would be called from where they are rather than being confined backstage. Interesting. Did the Phillipine version of WWTBAM include Double Dip?
