Hey guys, we havent had a Hot Seat discussion here for quite a while. So i thought i'll create a new one.
Why that? Well as you might have seen the WWTBAM Channel of mine "MillionaireWanted38" collects now
Australian Hot Seat episodes, since the US version is over & a new format brings always stuff to discuss & talk about.
(Side Note: if you want to keep track of when new episodes get posted, here is our schedule:
docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1UUubKJwJnV3R-ANRaF-K4SaeKePA5ifBG5jXz-EFnfE/ )
Also a shoutout:
The episodes were not available if dragon3989 wouldn't record them
And for those of you who have never heard of the format, here is a short explanation:
--------------------
"Millionaire Hot Seat"
On each show 6 contestants appear. Before the show starts, the will draw the order they get placed in the contestants-queue.
From Seat 1 to Seat 6. When the show begins, there are basically 2 main parts (since 2017):
A) Fastest-Finger-First (since 2017)
B) Main "Hot Seat" Game
A) Fastest-Finger-First (since 2017)
In the Fastest-Finger-First game the 6 contestants will face 15 fastest-finger-first questions.
Each of the questions has one correct answer (not a correct order!).
Sometimes there are visual questions (about an image) or audio questions (about a piece of a song)
The person who gives the most correct answers in the fastest time wins a cheque for $1,000.
This cheque can either be kept or paid back in the main game for the usage of one additional lifeline:
"50:50", "Ask A Friend" or "Switch The Question"
B) The Main "Hot Seat" Game.
The first player from the queue (placed in Seat 1) comes into the Hot Seat. 15 Clocked Questions are waiting there for the top prize of $1,000,000. The first 5 questions have a timelimit of 15secs , Q6-Q10 have 30sec timelimit & Q11-Q15 have 45sec time.
This first contestant can play as long as he likes to. If he doesnt want to play a question or doesn't know the answer to it he can use his "Pass" Lifeline.
"Pass" means the contestant gets to the end of the queue (enqueued) and the next player enters the Hot Seat (dequeued). This new contestant then must play the previous player's question with the clock beeing reset back to full time. If he gets that question right, he will unlock his Pass Lifeline, if he hasnt used it before in the game.
If one of the contestants gives a wrong answer, the top-prize drops down by one question and the contestant leaves with $0.
The next contestant that enters the hot seat plays a new question for the same value as the previous contestant.
In terms of top-prize dropping down, it goes from $1,000,000 -> $250,000 -> $100,000 -> $50,000 -> $20,000 -> $10,000
The contestant who plays the final question of the show automatically wins the threshold value of Q5 ($1,000) or if correct answered, the remaining top prize in play. The same counts if there is only 1 person left and he hasnt reached the final question yet. He is guaranteed $1,000 but must play to the end on his own if he wants to win the top-prize.
If the show has a winner and there are still people left in the contestants-queue, they can reapply for the show to appear someday again.
So its a roulette of contestants, timing, knowledge & luck.
The WWTBAM Page advertised this format with the words "most budget friendly".
There is basically 1 winner each show, either $1,000,000 / $250,000 / $100,000 / $50,000 / $20,000 / $10,000 or $1,000
(since 2017) +$1,000 if the fastest-finger-first winner did not give his cheque back for a lifeline
--------------------
This format exists since April 2009:
The first ever episode of it is available on YT:
In 2016 the first person, out of 7 in total who've seen the MDQ, won the top-prize of $1,000,000 on the show in Australia.
(WARNING: The clip starts at the timestamp where the contestant wins $1,000,000)
if you want to see it entirely use this link instead: youtu.be/7JPq-_yl1nY
And here are the first 9 episodes that we collected (including the last of the 4 "20th anniversary" episodes)

Q1: What do you think about this format? / Whats your first impression (if you've never seen it before)
Q2: Do you like the design / colors of the set? (then & now)
Q3: Do you like the "Hot Seat" music?
Q4: Is there any component you like/dislike the most?
Q5: Which improvements would you make to this format?
