I'm hoping if the series gets renewed that there will be a return of an audience, even if they all wear masks

If it does get renewed for a new season then people must see the show's potential all they have to do is just keep it to regular contestants and minimise celebrities but we would have to wait for news on a new season but let's see what happens.

Industry press labeled WWTBAM as a midsession replacement if it returns, so don’t expect to hear news either way until winter. Fingers crossed that we get good news then! Fingers crossed. Hopefully they won’t air the show on Sundays again… if it comes back, that is.

Not a chance. IMO, the shows big value to the network is cross-promotion. I'd be (delightfully) surprised to see the celebs go away.

I see Michael Davies is producing Jeopardy now. What does that do to affect Millionaire coming back?

I see Michael Davies is producing Jeopardy now. What does that do to affect Millionaire coming back? Very little, if it affects it at all. He has producer credit on a few other shows, and his role in producing Jeopardy! is temporary.

This show absolutely loves to live on the bubble between life and death at ABC.
Given the Kimmel/Davies pedigree, I wouldn’t be surprised if WWTBAM is pulled out of retirement to plug a scheduling hole in the next year or two. We don’t know when that will be, but the lack of a formal cancellation is a positive sign that it’s not dead.

I was so nervous when I saw this, thankful it’s not officially cancelled, but also nervous as I crave my opportunity to be in the hot seat, dreaming of this for a very long time.
I’m glad it’s not officially canceled, giving me hope and encouragement. I learned some new trivia last month, but with a busy job, it’s not always easy.
I’m on pins and needles waiting.

They should probably wait until it's safe enough to have an audience before they start filming again. I think the reboot was pretty much screwed because of the pandemic overall with the lack of an actual audience and the Ask the Audience lifeline.

As much as I applaud Jimmy Kimmel for pushing for the return of the show, I don't care for him as host. When Dr. Phil was on the show, I lost count on how many times Jimmy mentioned him not being a real doctor. It may have worked on his late night show, but not really a thing for Millionaire. Sure, Regis had a couple of bouts with contestants, but it was all in good fun and there was a positive reaction. I think any of the replacement hosts during the syndicated era would have worked out better. The lack of enthusiasm with a million dollar winner killed me. Having no audience hurt the show, but the Weakest Link's revival turned out much better IMO. Jane Lynch did an amazing job and I thought she was better than George, but I didn't care for the canned laughter though.
I think there needs to be a few changes in order to make the show last on primetime. The show needs to have its formulaic approach come back. The original and syndicated series had a very tight structure on camera moves, lighting, and sound effects. I'm sure having a lighter crew had something to do with it, but I believe the UK version is also lighter on the cues. Paul Smith needs to be phoned to show what a modernized Millionaire Bible would look like.

Kimmel was noticeably more invested when civilian contestants played. Like the audience watching at home, I think he struggled with the lack of real tension when celebrities were in the Hot Seat. And yes, a pro like Regis or Meredith would have made it work regardless, but I think Jimmy knew that his show was gutted by both the pandemic and format and it affected his performance. I feel for him because he really seems to hold both the show itself and Regis in such high regard, and I think he really wanted to get it right.
Hopefully, the powers-that-be are interested in trying again when conditions improve enough to bring in an audience and full crew. Heck, maybe they’ll even consider using what they’ve built so far to bring back the syndicated version.

I think the reboot was pretty much screwed because of the pandemic overall with the lack of an actual audience and the Ask the Audience lifeline. Having Millionaire compete against Sunday Night Football didn’t do the show any favors, which I saw a million miles away. I must’ve one of the few, if only, people who loves the NFL, but tuned into Millionaire’s second season anyway.

I hope I am not breaking any rules here regarding reviving dead threads or an incorrect thread (will move the discussion to a new thread if need be)
I recently finished binge watching on catching up on Season 1 of Jimmy Kimmel era WWTBAM USA and also (first time viewer of Season 2)
Here's what I think (Ask The Host cue starts)
Jimmy Kimmel is a good host in my opinion. He may have looked bad to some viewers based on what the other decisions were made (either on purpose or what Covid measures restricted the crew in what they could do)
The infamous 'Final Answer fiasco' of Season 1 left a bad taste in my mind. They should have just accepted the first answer and moved to the next player. Let's hope this never occurs again.
It was nice that we finally got a celebrity $1,000,000 winner in David Chang. A shame Covid measures were in play because a full studio audience would have gone crazy.
Here is what I would propose for a future season.
The future US production team should just watch a Clarkson era UK episode (ideally a pre Covid era episode) and probably just change pound signs for dollars.
This means
Almost an exclusively non celebrity season (and if a celebrity special or a small handful of them are made, ideally have no guaranteed safety net at $32,000. Allow the remote chance of a charity walking home with $0)
FFF would return (at least the current UK standard of 6 contestants)
Flexible 2nd safety net
Four lifelines of 50:50, Phone A Friend, Ask The Audience and Ask The Host (or if Covid still poses problems, a 2nd Phone A Friend or different lifeline)
Also I want to say one more thing that may be controversial. I want Disney/ABC to have no part in the next season. Sony must have been disappointed in the ratings and must be thinking about letting contracts lapse to allow them to freely give the show to another US network.
And that is my final answer (Ask The Host cue ends)
