It's sad to see one of the long-running countries ended their WWTBAM adventure. And maybe unless, if the Portuguese want to revived it, then with this news, the Hot Seat format will officially "dead" next year.
Personally, I like, and don't like Hot Seat so much, it's format might be not really good (you know when one contestant could destroyed your dream of winning $1 Million by answered their question wrong) and how it's way more stressful than Classic Millionaire is what I don't like(And I hate the "PASS" flashy light, which is why I abandoned the Vietnamese version during their Hot Seat run) But it's unique, along with their awesome studio from 2015 is what I love.
Anyway, 14 years and 8 months on air is a great achievement for them, considered how it's harder to become a Millionaire in here is harder than any of the predecessor version in Australia. I also want to say thank you to Eddie, he is the man who make all of this happened.
It'll be great if it's just a hiatus like what Eddie said, it'll be back and we can waiting for the changes.
But if it's really "the end", let's keep it as a memory and a big part of WWTBAM history.
That's all. It's great to see Australia joined in and create a format "that might not success anywhere outside their territory". GG, Channel 9.

Oh no! Another country to axe Millionaire, why? As I just said in my "Final answer philosophy" thread, Millionaire truly is slowly dying out. I think TV channels don't feel like it would be worth it to restart it with all the pomp but, as far as I'm aware, not only us but most people loved it at its bygone popularity peak...

To be honest, I wouldn't say that Millionaire is "dying out". There's still several versions of the show on air, some for decades (like Germany or Austria), others have successful revivals (like Miljonairs in the Netherlands) or have finally their own version after 25 years (like Guatemala)!
And compared to other formats like The Wall (which had a rather short carreer, bearing in mind it started in 2016, even though it was sold to many countries), Millionaire is far from extinction in my opinion. Moreover, I thought that 1 vs 100 was almost dead as well; the only two versions left are the Netherlands and Switzerland. But holy moly, the Greek version is coming back after more than 13 years! So even in these cases, there's still a chance for versions coming back!
About Hot Seat... it's really a pity that it comes to an end, especially shortly after the 2500th episode. I'm not an avid viewer of their version tbh, but it's still sad to see one of the longest-running versions go. But I'm already hoping for them to return in the future! Fingers crossed!

It's always a shame to see any version of the show end. I'm not personally a fan of the Hot Seat format, but Eddie and the team in Australia have been entertaining Australian fans for years and should be commended for a job well done. I'm sure Millionaire will have its triumphant return someday in Australia.

Of course, I don't want to be negative, it was just a moment for thought. I hope ITV won't ignore Millionaire's 25th anniversary, that would be a shame...

Looks like the ratings for Millionaire Hot Seat was dropping according to a few articles. I am not the biggest fan of the Hot Seat format i do like the music. Eddie is a good host hopefully he finds a new show to host.
I Would love to see an Australian Price is Right or Wheel of Fortune return.

I agree with crazyhu regarding the hot seat format, I just like their music and their studio. However to respond to Minh, if the Portuguese version resumes a 4th time the hot seat format. In this case, this format will still exist in the world and it will not be "dead". Now to tell you, I'm not surprised that Australian production is stopping this format, and that's since they had paused to resume the classic version in 2021. 14 years is something, but I think it was starting to wear off around before 2020. Also to answer fimoku, I agree with danaceks. Admittedly, Guatemala was able to launch the format after 25 years, but more than half of the world decided to stop the game. You know my opinion on this, the rave format harms the world of WWTBAM. Everyone thought between 2007 and 2010 that with this format, the game would last even longer and that it would keep the same assets as the old one. Except that for some it was wallowing. You mention the two oldest active ones (Germany and Austria), but that's a bit normal since they're the only versions to have never used the rave format. And yet the show has been around for 23 years and it hasn't changed.
Now hopefully there will be something planned for the sequel next year, I wish for WWTBAM and/or for Eddie McGuire.

So that means you think no innovation should be done as the original format is simply perfect? Or...? (Edit: to be fair, I love the Ask the Host lifeline, the moveable safety net and Olga graphics, as introduced in ITV revival with JC)

Quite personally, i've never cared nor liked how the whole format and how it was structured. 15 FF questions? Really? (Portugal did it better in 2020) Not a very good OST that lacked tension the whole point of the OST both Classic and Rave did a good job bring it out. In addition to how dated the set and graphics are. Using graphics from 2016 and be stuck in 2016 (Special events was a good single point to upgrade and be fresh) so honestly i'm glad it going on hiatus next year. The whole Hot Seat format was never great to begin with. (Controversial take I know but this is how I honestly feel about it)

Hopefully the retirement of Hot Seat in Australia will pave the way for a resurrection of real Millionaire.

(Edit: to be fair, I love the Ask the Host lifeline, the moveable safety net and Olga graphics, as introduced in ITV revival with JC) I would almost say that, but so that it doesn't overdose, the German production has adopted graphic models inspired by the rave format, while keeping the text aspect of the original format. Lifelines can also be adjusted or added like the lifelines you mentioned. As a reminder, the Australian production started the version with 11 questions, which was a monumental mistake because it accelerated the game too quickly and 1 year later they resumed the original number of questions. Like the American version of 2020, they were able to mix the graphics of 2019 with the black graphics, which would have been great is that it also changes the font of the questions because the verdana is seen too much.
But if I was just me, yes the original format was perfect, see very perfect !

I can see we have lots of things to talk about Well it they make a version with less questions, it very much depends how they do it. I don't mind the 12q UK format as the first five questions are super easy and vitually everyone knows them, so skipping the first three while retaining all the others is fine with me Yes, the 2020 U.S. Millionaire graphics are great. I just don't really like the studio (that also pertains to U.K. revival) as it's never fully dark. When you take the old black-graphics era of 2000's, the surroundings are absolutely dark during Q11-Q15, suggesting real pressure, but when you take the new one, I can hardly see any difference in lighting between Q6-Q10 and Q11-Q15, it's pretty much blue all the time snipboard.io/mSBlQp.jpg Q6-Q10 snipboard.io/yisHlI.jpg Q11-Q15

Shame they add regular Millionaire cues though, it kind of ruins the vibe for me (especially in the Ecuadorian version where most cues were from "Classic" Millionaire, even the questions). I would also like to see Catchphrase revived in Australia, so it won't just be the UK with an active version.
