www.nypost.com/p/entertainment/tv/meredith_quits_today_renegotiates_Z76ltrZr7Vb9WtkGnEap6LI know that this news item was posted in the Shout Box earlier today, but I think that the article is significant enough to warrant a thread on the boards. Apparently, Meredith is still in contact negotiations for "Millionaire," and her current contract expires in the fall. The article indicates that the powers-that-be are trying to cut back her salary, which is certainly an incentive for her to rethink her position. I think I speak for everyone hear when I say that I really hope she stays on board with the show, but we'll have to keep our fingers crossed and our ears open as more developments unfold. Meredith is an integral part of "Millionaire," and the show just wouldn't be the same without her.

Why would they want to decrease her salary? She's a great host. Maybe they're in financial trouble.
I'd hate to see Meredith leave Millionaire, especially since she's set to leave the Today show on June 8. She's a great television personality, no doubt about it.

^Yeah, I agree. I hope she stays with the show because leaving the Today Show & Millionaire just wouldn't be right!

Oprah Winfrey could be a great possible host for Millionaire as Oprah is just finishing her TV show right now. (as of 6:43pm EDT)

I think Oprah will be focusing on creating programming for her own television network, OWN. I don't think she has the time to host a syndicated game show.

Personally, I can't see Oprah hosting Millionaire.

Nope, I couldn't see her doing it either. She very well could and wouldn't be the worst host out there, but I just don't see her being a game show host.

I personally feel like Oprah would not make a really good game show host at all. She has more of a relaxed, talk show type of feel, not a suspenseful high-stakes game show host.
However, how come they want to lower Meredith's salary? Didn't they just win millions of dollars in their lawsuit? Or maybe they think she's doing a poor job and therefore want to giver her a wakeup call? Not sure....

Everyone all over the country is taking pay cuts due to the economy. This is no exception.

I think Kenny Mayne would be a good fit. Regis was one of the 4 panelists on the 1st championship game of ESPN's 2-Minute Drill (aired Christmas Day 2000), which Kenny hosted, and Kenny pointed out that there were some similar connections with Millionaire (Michael Davies and Millionaire to name a couple).
What do you guys think? Should Kenny get back into the game show hosting gig? Or was 2-Minute Drill enough?
