*I wasn't 100% sure if this post should be under Other Game Shows or under General Discussion*
I started watching Game Show Network in 2002 when I first realized they showed older Wheel of Fortune episodes from the 1990s (which I loved to watch) Match Game, and Millionaire. Over the years, not only has Game Show Network officially changed it's name to GSN, but also the amount of broadcast of actual game shows has lessened significantly. Of course the triplets of love shows in 2011 has also been seen, Newlywed Game, Baggage, and Love Triangle... other than Newlywed Game, are those two even considered Game Shows? Really, what is GSN anymore? The only decency that I see out of GSN is Catch 21, the new Lingo, 1 vs. 100, and the occassional classic repeats you might see weekday mornings. What is this? Oh and, Drew Carey's Improv-a-Ganza? I love it, it's hilarious, but it's no game show. They should really have another channel (like GSN2 or something) for classic broadcasts like many a year ago. What are your thoughts everyone?

My cable package stopping carrying GSN about two years ago, but by that point the network was already starting to see a huge decline. History has proven that the network is moderately successful when it airs actual game shows, yet the powers-that-be at the network continue to produce a continuous stream of reality-type shows and other garbage. It's truly a shame how far down the tubes the network has fallen.

Anyone know if Rich Cronin is still there? Last I heard, he left or was fired, and that's when the reality garbage came back.

Generally, reality has overtaken much television today and has corrupted many in society. That's very shameful and upsetting. Oh and there's also High Stakes Poker which is a big thing for GSN. Shouldn't High Stakes Poker be on ESPN or something?

The only decency that I see out of GSN is Catch 21, the new Lingo, 1 vs. 100, and the occassional classic repeats you might see weekday mornings. I wouldn't quite call the current run of Lingo "decency" from GSN. I honestly think it didn't even come *close* to living up to the previous series. Dumb contestants, stupid clues, etc. have completely turned me off from the show. Bill Engvall does a great job as host, though. From my point of view, I knew the network was pretty much doomed when they tried Carnie Wilson: Unstapled at the beginning of 2010. Good God, that was terrible, and the ratings showed it - they went down in every timeslot. I'm looking at Buzzerblog now, and I think this pretty much shows why reality shows don't work on GSN (ratings are the week of January 14th, 2010, I think): Day | Time | Replaced | Viewers Last Week | Unstapled Viewers | Lost | Wed. | 1:00AM | Jeopardy! | 188,000 | 80,000 | 108,000 | Wed. | 10:00PM | 1 vs. 100 | 556,000 | 183,000 | 373,000 | Sat. | 10:30PM | 1 vs. 100 | 445,000 | 203,000 | 242,000 | Tues. | 10:30PM | 1 vs. 100 | 385,000 | 195,000 | 190,000 | Fri. | 11:00AM | Catch 21 | 108,000 | 73,000 | 35,000 | Thurs. | 11:00PM | Deal or No Deal | 368,000 | 142,000 | 226,000 | Sun. | 11:30AM | Catch 21 | 283,000 | 79,000 | 204,000 |
*Note: 1 vs. 100 is the Bob Saget reruns, not the revival. Think that was bad? That was only the first seven timeslots on the page out of nineteen. The full article is available here: buzzerblog.flashgameshows.com/carnie-wilson-unstapled-debut-week-ratings-comparison/ It also includes ratings for the hidden camera show Hidden Agenda which are even worse... So you think that'd be a wake-up call for GSN, right? Apparently not. We don't have anything quite as bad as that right now, although I think Improv belongs on another network (I do love it, I really do, but it's not GSN), and Love Triangle should just die as quickly as possible. Unstapled has demonstrated perfectly that non-game shows simply don't work as well on the network, but everyone making decisions at GSN obviously haven't seen that yet. Perhaps they need a ratings disaster to make it perfectly clear to them.

Oh that Love Triangle game should be on MTV if anything, but more or less should not be on television at all. In fact, I saw the end of one episode the other day and it's funny because after the contestant chose the one woman, he immediately proposed to her. Really.... pathetic. *shakes head*

Sometimes I wonder if the network would actually do better in the ratings if they just stopped trying to make new programming altogether and just aired repeat game shows. Millionaire, Million Dollar Password, Deal or No Deal, 1 vs. 100, and the classics all seem to get decent ratings on GSN, and they cost no money to produce because they're all reruns. Frankly, those shows are the reason that most people tune into GSN to begin with. I bet GSN would fare better financially if they just stopped trying to be different and gave people what they want.

I think they need to rely on their "Paid Programming" infomercials to stay financially stable.
Anyone else notice they still do that? They've had those infomercials running since I began watching it. I have no issue with that, since I'm not up to watch many of them.

I've noticed that they have that in the early morning, although I think they've scaled back on it an hour or two in the past year or so.

My cable provider no longer has GSN for basic cable, and they even ditched ESPN Classic (so no more 2-Minute Drill for me). I sometimes call it Game Show Network, and sometimes I call it GSN.
As for the programming, they need to get the Press Your Luck shows they haven't aired yet (like the '83 and '86 shows; all they've aired so far is the '84-'85 stuff, including Larsen for those who missed it the first time around).
