You guys remember the Season 1 question that Kathy Hempel had about the cost of a vowel on Wheel of Fortune, right? The choices were $50, $100, $250, and $500.
Apparently, there happen to be TWO correct answers instead of one. $250 it has mostly been, but let us not forget the 2-season Bob Goen daytime version which had vowels at $100.
I read that had Kathy filed an appeal about the question, the producers would've turned it down.
What have you guys to say about that? Should she have appealed? It seems she may have watched more of Goen's version.

Well during the Bob Goen era, the money on the wheel plummeted. The $25,000 top prize went down to a lowly $5,000. So it only seems right that a vowel should be worth $100.

You could argue that the use of the word "does" as opposed to "did" would rule out $100 as being correct.
It's a moot point anyway, because she was brought back for a $0 special anyway. Made the most of it too.

Mm-hmm, a la Martin Poteralski from the nighttime show, she picked up a cool $250,000.
But let's hear what others have to say about this. I'm on her side, and those that have commented so far seem to lean towards the producers'/writers' side.

I'm siding with the writers. Sorry to her, but the question isn't flawed - "How much does it cost to buy a vowel?" =/= "How much did it cost to buy a vowel 15 years ago on the Bob Goen daytime version that lasted for two years, even though the version of the show that everyone should be familiar with and has lasted to this day has had vowels at $250 since 1983?" It's not like someone will go on The Price is Right and be like, "Well that was the price of the paper towels in 1990!" (Unless you're playing Now or Then, of course. ) Either way, at least she came back to win a quarter million. If only we had more vowels, she could buy a thousand. Or 2,500, by her count.

What RyanZ said. Something that used to often be mentioned on the UK Millionaire, whenever a question was a little bit questionable, is that you go for the BEST answer. In this case, the best answer was $250.

Writers win this one. The question was asking the vowel cost in present tense. No matter how the player may interpret the question, the rule says to pick the "most correct answer." For a player to be invited back because of a flawed question, it needs to fall in one of these categories (based on previous similar situations): - Typo in the question/answer text (bad punctuation, capitalization or grammar error) that can (but not necessarily) alter the meaning of the question.
- Two or more answers that are correct according to the question's tense. (i.e. Ed Toutant's original flawed question)
The only exception to the rule are science related questions. You may recall several seasons ago that a contestant was invited back because general science had proven he was correct regarding silicon freezing at a certain temperature (or something like that). If it is correct now, it was correct then, too - we just didn't have that knowledge (as humans) yet.

Add to this list the possibility of NONE of the answers being correct (see Shields, Tim).

And let's not forget about that question regarding the biggest Great Lake that David Honea had back in August 1999.

And let's not forget about that question regarding the biggest Great Lake that David Honea had back in August 1999. That was a perfectly valid question. They just screwed up and plugged in the wrong answer as being right.

That was a perfectly valid question. They just screwed up and plugged in the wrong answer as being right. Actually, I'd say they plugged in an answer as to where a simple change to the question, would've been correct. Reading the question word for word in proper context would've told you that $100 is wrong according to WoF at the time. Like RyanZ said, who would've thought of a time 15 years ago during only the daytime show at that point? Very few, if that, and if you can remember the Bob Goen era, something tells me you would know how much one would cost today.

Right, but on that Great Lakes question it was asking which was the biggest in area. David said Lake Huron, but the screen comes up flashing Lake Michigan instead.
However, and very few of us might know this in addition to Lake Huron being the biggest Great Lake in Area, Lake Michigan is the biggest Great Lake in terms of Volume.
