buzzerblog.flashgameshows.com/morning-buzz-for-august-9-2011/It seems like the biggest change this season for Millionaire will be the addition of "Double Your Money" days. On those days, one of the first ten questions is randomly selected to have its value doubled. So obviously a question could be worth anything from $200 to $50,000 there. If the contestant does have $25,000 doubled and makes it through round two without jumping anything, their bank would be a massive $93,600. Try finding someone who'll guess for the $100K on that. Thoughts? Mine are that giving the contestant a potential $50,000 ($25,000 when halved) for the first question isn't good. Think about that...$25,000 for answering a SINGLE QUESTION. I'm not sure about this, and I've been pretty open to the changes so far. (One thing I'd still like to see that I've mentioned many times already is changing $100 to $1500 for a possible $70,000 bank. $68,600 is just weird.)

I'm a little disappointed that this is the only change that the producers came up with for the milestone tenth season. There's ten seasons of Millionaire to celebrate, and they're just adding a "Double Your Money" feature to the game that probably won't even feature in most of the episodes. I guess hoping for some graphical and musical updates would be a bit too much. Looks like we're getting more of the same. Not that "more of the same" is horrible, just not what I think a lot of fans were hoping for.

Can't they double the top amounts also?

Honestly, a $100 low dollar amount should be taken away. A $500 lowest dollar amount is perfectly fine. The doubling thing is fine, and of course, it should be given to each contestant if they're going to do it... because the game is at least a little more fair... even if the placement of the double is randomized as well.

Honestly, a $100 low dollar amount should be taken away. I'm with you on that. If they were able to use $500 as a starting point for the final season of the traditional money tree format (i.e. with or without clock), it should be fine here.

FrankT: No, only the first ten. Doubling $100K-$1M would be a bit much. Actually, now I think there are so many problems with this. It's not for everyone - the article said it was at the producer's discretion - and I'd be pretty annoyed to have $100 doubled. There's way too much randomness at this point for Millionaire. It won't stop me from watching, since it's not even a huge change in the first place, but it's not a great one, either.

I'm with you on that. If they were able to use $500 as a starting point for the final season of the traditional money tree format (i.e. with or without clock), it should be fine here. Totally agreed. The final (original) money tree ($500-$1Million) except for $50,000 and up to (and including) $25,000 in Round 1 would be nice. In fact that would come out to a solid $81,500 w/o the double your money bonus. However, $81,500 is a stretch, so RyanZ's idea of replacing the $100 with a $1,500 spot to even out the final Round 1 score to $70,000 w/o jumps used would be the best bet. ;D

And if I'm reading that correctly, does that mean they've ditched the category board as well?

gameshowguy, where are you reading that? I don't see it being mentioned.

I never read anything about dropping the categories.

I never read anything about dropping the categories. Same here... and there seems to be no reason to take away categories. They seem to help and ease the contestant into the question and give them an idea towards the question and what it entitles. Even if contestants don't use the categories, doesn't mean they shouldn't be there.

It says, "Remember, it's all random and independent now."

That just means that the categories and money values are randomized, and that the harder questions may not necessarily have higher dollar values attached to them.
