Hi Guys,
Pretty interesting eh? What's that? You can't read what I wrote? Oh, well, you can thank congress for that one.
It's been all over the news and it's not a laughing matter - congress is trying to censor the internet. You may notice that sites like Wikipedia, Facebook and Google are randomly censoring out content on their pages to prove a point to the public. The SOPA and PIPA bills currently in the Senate and Congress are passing right now. Short version: this would give the government the ability to force internet providers to blacklist and/or shut down any website they deem fit. The "goal" of these bills is to prevent online piracy by blocking websites outside the US that are suspected to be providing illegal software (torrents and whatnot).
But the bills are so poorly worded that it essentially gives companies and the government access to completely shut down sites for anything that even seems like copyright infringement. For example, you may not be able to post videos on YouTube anymore if the video doesn't contain 100% content that you and you alone created (say goodbye to Millionaire videos). It also means that sites like ProBoards could get the chopping block, too.
What does this mean for you? Try this on for size:
Yeah, it's that bad. The really bad news: IT'S CURRENTLY PASSING 80 TO 31!
Normally I don't participate in political stuff, but this one is actually important. I urge you to do something about it. If you are an American Citizen and have the right to vote, PLEASE call/email/write your congress person and senators and tell them to OPPOSE SOPA & PIPA. Here is a current list of lawmakers that support/oppose the acts:
projects.propublica.org/sopa/
Want to sign Google's petition to tell congress to stop this nonsense? Go here:
www.google.com/landing/takeaction/
Again, I seriously urge you to take action against this if you can. Don't be afraid to call or write your congress person - we elected them so they could represent us, they HAVE to at least listen to what you have to say and every person's opinion makes a difference. It only takes a minute to write them a message: TELL THEM TO OPPOSE SOPA AND PIPA.

Please, please, please... Take a few minutes to do this. We seriously need everyone's support on this or the internet as we know it will change forever.
