As you can tell from my last story, I bowl, weekly. This does relate again, a bit later in the story, but not all my stories will be bowling related.
So, the official PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) spring sports season begins tomorrow (3/5/12). I hadn't played a sport for Central Catholic HS this year. So I had to get my yearly physical, I did so this past Friday (3/2/12). Other than dealing with the long wait... it's a doctors office, what do you expect, and the typical ease of a basic physical, it was a breeze, I found it a nuisance because I wasted part of my time on Friday just to get some papers signed so I can play tennis like the last 3 years. All is well, I go to leave the office, they come back and tell me I have to get a peralissus shot or something, I don't even remember what it was. Alright, whatever, as long as I don't have to wait much longer. No big deal, it only took under a minute, piece of cake. The only thing I don't like about most medical shot injections is that when given, especially in the arm, they tend to lead to sore arm(s) because of the injection being given right in the muscle... for a couple of days. With only the one shot, I thought I was fine, no pain for the rest of the night.
I woke up yesterday (Saturday, 3/3/12) and I found that unfortunate sharp pain covering my arm, certainly worse than I thought. Ugh. Oh, did I mention I bowl Saturdays at 9:30am for my league? Of course I just wondered if I could even bowl and deal with this. I didn't even think of how bad I probably should've done. Hence, should've. The only reason I went to bowl was because the injection (and pain) was in my left arm, I bowl with my right arm/hand.
So, I picked up my friend, like I do every week, and headed over to the bowling alley. In the 10 minute practice, I left no frame empty (all spares and strikes). I think I bowled 4 or 5 frames worth during practice. I thought that was luck, considering the arm was bothering me still. I start it off with a 135. Ok, under average, but no big deal, I only have to make up 9 points in the next two games overall.
Here's the shocking part, I rolled my first career 5-bagger. That's 5 strikes in a row. This was the first 5 frames. All day, however, I couldn't pick up my dang spares. 3 or 4 open frames followed, but a couple of spares ending the game I wowed myself with a very impressive 193 (in my book). The third game was good too, a 153. Series, 481... a yearly best for me, averaging 160 for the week.
So, the moral? I don't know, maybe... don't let anything hold you down. Always try, do your best... even when it seems you can't. IDK, but I'll take some greats stats out of it.
Anyway, feeling my arm now, as I write this, the pain is, for the most part gone, and should be alright as I begin tennis tomorrow afternoon. WHOO, such a long story. Thanks for letting me share this with you. Maybe I'll have a tennis story next week or something.
