So the other day I registered to be a volleyball ref in the local schools for next year! I don't have much experience. I did ref the intramural volleyball games in high school - even had yellow and red sanction cards - but I ran the clock and have done score for the 4th-12th grade teams at the school so it shall be interesting. I'm the kind of scorer that would have the rules book right there at the scorer's table in plain sight so the referees could see that "we don't mess around here, you come, call the game by the rules, and leave." Harsh maybe, but in my opinion, at the high school level, that's the job of a ref. I'll do basketball in a few years but they're changing commissioners in the next year or two so I want to wait for all of that to be sorted out. I love basketball just as much. Has anyone else ever officiated any high school or college sports? Professional? Any advice? Stories?
