Paddy and Christine McGuinness, Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, James Cracknell and Beverley Turner take to the hotseat!
Get ready to see who really wears the trousers, as a host of famous couples attempt to win as much money as possible for their chosen charities on Sunday 20th May, 7.15pm on ITV1.
Uniting their specialist subjects, newlyweds Paddy and Christine McGuinness are the first celebrity couple facing quiz master Chris Tarrant. Take Me Out host, Paddy McGuinness hopes to raise cash for the British Heart Foundation while his wife, former beauty queen Christine, has chosen to support Breast Cancer Care. Will the loved up pair prove to be the perfect match as they try to win the magic million?
The British Heart Foundation www.bhf.org.uk is dedicated to saving lives by funding pioneering research, enabling patient care, campaigning for change and providing vital information to anyone affected by heart disease. They rely on donations of time and money to continue their life-saving work.
Breast Cancer Care is a charity that supports anyone affected by breast cancer. They are the only UK-wide charity dedicated to providing emotional and practical support to anyone affected by the disease. They bring people together, provide information and support, and campaign for improved standards of care based on personal experiences combined with clinical expertise. Presenting favourite Eamonn Holmes who will endeavour to win the jackpot for Clic Sargent’s Northern Ireland ‘Homes from Home’ Appeal commented; “The biggest achievement for us will be just agreeing on an answer. We’re thinking of introducing options A, B, C and D into our everyday dilemmas.” He is accompanied by his on and off screen partner Ruth Langsford, who is taking part on behalf of The Alzeheimers Society. The This Morning co-host commented; “It’s a huge thrill getting to appear on a programme you have grown up watching as a viewer, but the bigger thrill is playing for the Alzheimer’s Society. The money we are trying to win could really make a difference. I am playing with Eamonn but playing for my Dad who suffered from the disease for many years.”
CLIC Sargent’s Northern Ireland Homes from Home Appeal aims to raise money to build accommodation for families who travel to Belfast for cancer treatment. Every week two children or young people in Northern Ireland are told the devastating news that they have cancer. When a child is diagnosed with cancer or leukaemia, treatment must start immediately, either at The Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children or The Belfast City Hospital and Northern Ireland Cancer Centre. On average a family in Northern Ireland will make a round-trip of 95 miles, up to five times a week so that they can access the cancer treatment their child needs. This puts a big financial strain on the family with the cost of travel and possibly temporary accommodation while their child is undergoing treatment. CLIC Sargent’s Northern Ireland Appeal will result in two new Homes from Home in Belfast, within walking distance of each hospital. For more information visit www.clicsargent.org.uk
Alzheimer’s Society is the leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain and can affect anyone. Alzheimer's Society supports people to live well with dementia today and funds research to find a cure for tomorrow; and more people affected by dementia turn for help to Alzheimer's Society than to any other charity. Dementia Awareness Week is Alzheimer’s Society’s flagship awareness raising event and will run from 20 – 26 May. This year we are encouraging people to ‘remember the person’ and look beyond their dementia. We are asking everyone to spend some time whether it’s 5 or 30 minutes to learn about dementia. You can find out more at www.alzheimers.org.uk/remembertheperson. For information, advice and support, please visit www.alzheimers.org.uk.
Finally, British rowing champion and Olympic gold medalist James Cracknell and his wife, sports radio and TV presenter Beverley Turner, take centre stage as the athletic duo look to climb the money tree on behalf of Headway, a charity set up to give help and support to people affected by brain injury. Having raised millions for charity before by cycling, rowing and swimming a whopping 1,400 miles from Britain to Africa, the former Olympic Champion doesn’t settle for second best and together with Beverley, James aims to walk away with the seven figure cheque. But will they cross the finish line or will the questions prevent them from taking gold?
Headway is the UK-wide charity that works to improve life after brain injury. A brain injury can happen to anyone at any time and can challenge every aspect of a person’s life – walking, talking, thinking and feeling. Through Headway’s network of more than 100 groups and branches across the UK, it provides support, services and information to brain injury survivors, their families and carers, as well as to professionals in the health and legal fields. At Headway, people use insight and care to help survivors regain some quality of life through a wide range of services, including rehabilitation programmes, carer support, social re-integration, community outreach and respite care. On a national level, Headway provides a confidential helpline service that is available to anyone with a question about brain injury – from survivors and carers, to students and professionals. May 14-20th is Action for Brain Injury Week 2012. This is the charity’s annual awareness campaign and this year they are focusing on how brain injury affects the entire family. For more information about brain injury or how Headway helps those affected, visit www.headway.org.uk.
Overseeing proceedings is quiz master Chris Tarrant and the cash won by the contestants will be shared 50/50 between their charities and one lucky viewer at home.
