Hi Guys,
So I'm pretty prone to sore throats. In fact I've had three of them in the past 35 days and they have been getting progressively worse each time. The second one I noticed my tonsils were getting pretty thick in the process. So thick in fact that it impeded my speech and breathing. Naturally I went to my doctor straight away (wanting to continue to be able to breathe and all that, you know). Apparently the medical term for my condition is: "OMG you have the biggest tonsils I've ever seen -- get to an E.N.T. now!" (Ears/Nose/Throat specialist).
That said, she put me on some antibiotics and this steroid crap to kill the swelling so I could breath again. I should mention I hate taking any kind of pharmaceutical drug, I don't even like Tylenol. Well, everything went back to normal, finished the meds and about 5 or 6 days went by and I noticed my tonsils were getting thick again and started hurting the following day. So this morning I went to see an E.N.T. who took one look and said "Yeah, you need surgery and quickly." So apparently I need to book a tonsillectomy and an adenoidectomy in the very near future. Until then I have to stay on steroids and these really strong antibiotics to keep the swelling down. Of course I won't hesitate because I'm not very fond of, you know, suffocating in my sleep and all.
The really crappy part is apparently the cut-off age for a "quick and relatively easy recovery" is 22. I exceed that by about 5.5 years. Great! So instead of one week, I'm looking at dealing with at least two weeks of miserable pain and begging for death.
Has anyone had either of these procedures done in their mid-late 20s? I'm curious on how I should deal with the whole situation with dealing with recovery and any advice would be appreciated! =] (Note: ice cream is not an option, I don't eat dairy. Also I'll be on at least 6-8 Vicodin a day and you're not supposed to have a lot of sugar with that else your stomach can get messed up and you could puke, which is the God-forbidden LAST thing you want to be doing when you just had throat surgery.)
