Over the last few months I have really got into to "The People Versus" quiz. This got me thinking could millionaire have taken some ideas from it. If you not familiar with "TPV" it was a quiz show where a contestant would face questions sent in from the public. If the contest got the answer wrong the person who sent that question in would get the value of that question in which ever round it was in. The contestants got 3 "lifelines' called flips. If a player opted to use these. The question would be flipped for one in the players specialist subject chosen before the show. This got me thinking... In the UK version of Millionaire after question 7 contestants are given the "switch the question" lifeline. I that "switch the question" should be changed to "Flip" as believe that this lifeline would be better if the lifeline would be better if it switched the question to the contestants specialist subject. It would give the contestant a much better chance of advancing to the next question. Contestants would still have to reach question 7 to earn this lifeline. Meaning the question writer would only have to write 5 question on the player's specialist subject. I would be so much more useful to contestants and may help nervous contestants take risks on their way to the million. Do you think a lifeline like this would be more useful than a switch to a random question?
A terrible mock-up of the lifeline in the old style.

I don't think that would be implemented in millionaire for a simple reason: every producer is scared of cheating, especially since Charles Ingram. If they did that, the chances of cheating would be increased if the audience would write the questions, and therefore know the answers and may communicate the questions they have written to the possible contestants before taping the show. It's an interesting Idea that you have suggested but I don't think that it would be implemented for that reason and also because "The People Versus" has also been created by David Briggs, Steve Knight and Mike Whitehill so they would have added it to Millionaire if that lifeline would have been compatible with the gameplay. I think they should have a lifeline called "Bounceback" or something, where you're allowed to guess the answer and if it's wrong, you get another question, and if it's right, you advance. Once you've opted to use it though, it's like double dip, you can't walk away.

Sandrules, that is actually a very good idea for a lifeline. How many times can you think of that someone has used the "switch the question" lifeline and then chosen the correct answer, when Chris asked would they would have went for. Your lifeline would take some of the risk of using it but wouldn't always have 100% success rate, which is a good thing. I would really like to see a new lifeline implement soon to replace switch. I just don't find switch very useful.

It could be better if the flip was with the graphic of the UK modern version... But why don't use the same effect to this lifeline than in TPV ? Contestant can use It to replace a question for its own subject but difficulty depending of his level...
