You know what Millionaire doesn't have. They didn't have a kids or teens version of Millionaire. I know they had a computer game. They also had a kids version in a Nigerian version. I know kids can't play the really popular game show because of gambling and stuff, but what do you think? I'm talking about the kids. Maybe the teen version will be fine.

So if "gambling" is an issue for kids on game shows, explain Teen's Best Friends week on Wheel and Kids & Teens weeks on Jeopardy. Seems every time you spin the wheel or ring in, it's a gamble.
That's not why you don't see kids on Millionaire.

Sorry. I could've been more clear. What I meant to say is $1 Million maybe too big a prize for kids. I'm not saying they can't have kids on the show, but maybe they can get help from their parents.

They have. There was at least one kid/parent version with Regis and there was one in the clock era, as well.

Sorry. I could've been more clear. What I meant to say is $1 Million maybe too big a prize for kids. I'm not saying they can't have kids on the show, but maybe they can get help from their parents. If the questions are to be geared to kids, then having adults answer may be more of a giveaway than help. Plus, I've always believed that if kids play it should be for scholarship money, or, do it like Play It! and replace the money with points and have prizes at checkpoints. Or, both cash and prizes can be combined. Reduce the money and bundle checkpoints with prizes. Also, I've always found the "gambling" excuse to be total BS. For one, gambling is "to stake something on a contingency". Going on game shows are free, so the only thing you're giving up is your time. Plus, during the game, any money/prizes you receive on ANY show isn't actually yours until the game is done. If you're gambling something, it is gambling in THEORY (ie. if you get the $250,000 question right, it's not like you can get up from the hotseat, walk out the studio during the taping and $250K is given to you right there. You have to walk-away first, thus OFFICIALLY ending the game and allowing you to have $250,000) Interesting fact, according to the Muslim faith, gambling is illegal to the religion because something of value is risked to receive a prize. Game shows are touched upon in the subject, and as long as no fee is needed to participate, the religion ALLOWS people to go on.

Question: is money won for scholarship taxable?

That's a really good question. I would like to think there's no taxes on that, but part of me thinks it's all in how the show/network goes about it.

I nearly forgot about the scholarship. Sorry. I wasn't thinking clearly about the kids thing.
