The persons used as friends in the "Phone a Friend" lifeline must not confer with others or consult any reference materials of whatever nature in order to provide the answer for the Show Player; in the event that the Company has reasonable suspicion that such conferring or consultation has taken place, the provisions of Part B: General Rules clause 4 shall apply.

maybe it's illegal only in the UK.

Here in Italy all this not only is allowed, but it's encouraged! The host sometimes helps the "friend" with a hint before the clock starts, like "You are in luck, because you have to search for one single word". And I can't remember of a friend that didn't have Wikipedia.

Also there's usually lots of people in the friend's room

one interesting thing is the new clock graphic: it looks very similar to the new logo of Wheel of Fortune, which in Italy is an Endemol format
