You may have seen the very low-def video of David Paterson's Million-Rand Question at some point, which was uploaded to the internet in the early 2000s. Now see his final four questions in stunningly high definition. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0S7460MVjk

I'm 2 minutes into the video and my facial expression mirrors David's; I want the host to stop talking and get on with it before I punch him in the face.

That host is annoying, he is too egocentric (I will take away..., It's my pleasure to give you...) and fake. I really hate the way he addresses the contestant by his full name, it gives him an air of superiority which is the total opposite of what Chris Tarrant, Regis Phibin, Meredith Viera or Jean Pierre Foucault are/were in the show. I don't understand why the production has put such a bad host on Millionaire! Idolsfan

Whether the host is fake or not, the contestant won money, that's the focus of the game. To quote Jeopardy's Arthur Chu, "We're playing for real money."

I disagree with you on that point, it is a show so the host is also important to make it work. In Millionaire, the host plays an important part in the game as he is the only person who interacts with the contestants during the game (except for the lifelines). He is the only recurring character. The host wouldn't be in centre stage with the contestant if he wasn't an important part of the show. Idolsfan

@divvy Have to disagree with you there. When it come to shows, a host plays the factor of being a "pull factor" that brings in viewers by making it enjoyable to watch (Steve Harvey, for example). This guy is trying WAY too hard, and IMO, painful to watch, almost being fake to the point where you focus on him more than you do on anything else.

But we've seen worse hosts though. Remember Rolf Benirschk when he hosted Wheel of Fortune? That was bad.
