Why is it so bad to do? I don't really see it as a problem, but, if it's in the rules, I might not do it. Is it maybe considered spam or something?

In a sense, I guess, yeah, we do consider it spam. Spam is annoying so that's why it could be classified as such. The deal with it is, new members will often join here for the fan games section. That's perfectly fine - that's the biggest feature of the site! However, there are a lot of files there that need to be protected. There have been issues with fan games material being released elsewhere on the internet. That defeats the purpose of the audition system and secure section, right? Well, before we modified the rules a while back, a new member would join, post the (then) required 20 posts and audition...all in one day. The problem started when they were (rightfully so) called out by our membership as not being trustworthy. That started a lot of arguments. So, because of this, one of our attempts at curbing such behavior from new members was to institute a rule against dead thread bumping. "Is it ever okay to 'bump' a dead thread?" Good question - yes! When you have something *extremely constructive* to add to the conversation go ahead and bump! However, make sure it absolutely fits in the conversation. If not, then create a new thread. Also, we aren't worried about current fan games members bumping dead threads. Why? Because they have nothing to gain from it (e.g. raising a post count). Even with the rule in place and the modification of the audition requirements a while back, we still have the occasional dumb person that will join here and post 57 one-liner, dead-thread-reviving posts in one day then audition and insist they are trustworthy. "Why would one think they're not trustworthy for such behavior?" That's because they seem desperate. They seem desperate to get into the fan games and thirsty for respect. Around here, respect is earned. There have been a few members in the past that have tried to get into the fan games quickly, they were denied each and every time they auditioned and never showed up again shortly after. That just proves our point that they were here to get the FG material and bounce...likely without crediting the creators of said material either. Overall, we're a great community and welcome new members...as long as they go about it the right way In addition, we're all pretty easy to get along with once you get to know us and our corny senses of humor! Hope that answers your question! PS To the current fan games members...it really is no big deal if you bump dead threads, however, if we start to make it habit, it will look bad to new members, you know?

If you truly have something unique and constructive to add to the discussion, there's nothing wrong with bumping a dead thread. Nine times out of ten, though, new members bump dead threads with meaningless posts in a transparent attempt to grow their post counts. The problem got so bad at one point that we had to get aggressive about it. Just use your common sense when posting in older threads and you'll be fine.
