As some of you may already know, Ken Jennings is coming to millionaire VERY soon. This is a place I've made to talk about the upcomming event, his odds at $1,000,000... or anything you want to say!
All I can say is best of luck to Ken; he may have done well on Jeoparady... but millionaire is a whole new dimension of a game.

Yes, well the Shuffle format and Syndicated Millionaire itself really needs another Millionaire. The last they had was in around 2009 with the Tournament of Ten and Sam Murray in the Clock Format Era. You are right in saying that Jeopardy and Millionaire are totally different howver they pride themselves on General Knowledge so I really am rooting for Ken Jennings, I think that he can bring £1 Million after the disaster which was Josina Reaves.

Ken's definitely the sort who could go deep. Not only is he trivia-savvy, he's analytical, which will come in handy for the style of questions Millionaire has taken to. Millionaire questions have been looking more and more like Jeopardy clues in recent seasons. And the fact that he's presumedly well-off financially will help him too. He won't have the pressure of "Ooh, that $12,000 could pay off my credit card bills!" lording over him. You are right in saying that Jeopardy and Millionaire are totally different howver they pride themselves on General Knowledge so I really am rooting for Ken Jennings, I think that he can bring £1 Million after the disaster which was Josina Reaves. How was Josina Reeves a disaster? She played the game more masterfully than anyone else in the Shuffle format, got herself into the fairy tale scenario, didn't wuss out on the $75,000 gamble to win The Big Fella, and unfortunately it didn't pan out. Unfortunate result, but probably the best moment of Shuffle, and definitely not a disaster.

I believe in a way it was, although she was brave like the others unfortunately she didn't win the million. I believe that if she had the Plus one like this series or hadn't used her ask the audiece she would have won. It was a disaster in a way because the show needs another millionaire to boost ratings and unfortunately she did not succeed. Clever lady though! Ha ha you are so right! If he is 'rich' in inverted commas then a huge loss will not upset him too much.

I promise you the audience would have done exactly Jack and Squat to help her on a question about Nostradamus's jellies.

You know Lewis I think that you are right! Ha ha. Do you think this is to Spite her (Like Ken Basin) or the fact that the difficulty may be hard, bearing in mind that Bernie Cullen's audience was surprisingly helpful

Do you think this is to Spite her (Like Ken Basin) or the fact that the difficulty may be hard, bearing in mind that Bernie Cullen's audience was surprisingly helpful Berine Cullen's question looked pathetic next to Josina's. The high-tier shuffle format questions are honestly ridiculous... almost nobody will know anything about Nostradaumus' jams and jellies. So her audience vote might have looked more like Ken Basin's.

I would have to agree there Mappy, I believe it is because they don't want to give away so much money, and are typically cursed because they HAVE to give away one Million dollars because of the Title. Because it is a daytime show there budget is restricted quite heavily unlike Primetime. Only a few millionaire's opposed to many in US Primetime (And Japan!) Because of this the questions are much, much harder and only a few people will know the answer. Who on earth knows about Nostradaumus' Jellies!

In saying that, how many Primetime game shows are giving out cash in excess of $250,000? The only ones I can think of that do it regularly are The Chase, The Price is Right (on specials), and very rarely, Wheel of Fortune. I think we have to face the facts that big money gameshows are pretty much dead in the water and companies are filling the void with cheaper 30 minute alternatives. I must be one of the only ones who actually enjoyed Million Second Quiz because of the large amounts of cash at risk and the amount they were playing for. People aren't as excited by the prospect of winning $1 Million dollars any more, the only way I can see to reignite the big money game show is to offer $5 or 10 Million as the standard prize like The Power of 10.

Million Second Quiz was a fantastic series. It was the most interactive gameshow to date and was representative of how to incorporate the technology of today to engage viewers. There were 2 main problems as to why it didn't work, and both reasons would be difficult to deal with:
1. People who didn't play along with the downloadable game app had to have the game explained on TV, but given how MSQ is reliant on time, it would be unfair to have to explain the rules as the player in the Money Chair would rack up cash in a quick and easy way.
2. Breaking Bad. This is what ultimately killed the show. It was poor timing of MSQ that sent it nowhere. The week that the show happened was the same week Breaking Bad was doing it's finale, and the TV world in general lost out on a HUGE number of ratings. If MSQ happened sometime in late August, then it wouldn't had to have faced the impact of Breaking Bad. Think about it, what would you rather watch, some new game show you've never heard about, or a series finale everyone is talking about? The choice is pretty clear. If MSQ timed itself better, then viewers wouldn't had to have made a choice.

I think many of us think that Million Second quiz was a great gameshow! I would have to agree; these days the value of 1 Million is going down, especially because of the current economic state. And yes I would have to agree that Primetime are over to be honest, they just don't suit primetime anymore, It is a shame; I think we all realise that and it is a shame that Millionaire hasn't lasted longer at night instead of repetitive day time shows.

I think in this context, Reality TV killed the Game Show

I'm a tad bit concerned that if Ken doesn't win... the show might be dead in another season or two:
People are probably starting to get bored of zero big winners... and while as stated above people aren't dying to see big money, with a show like millionaire it's almost needed once every few years or so (probably why the tourn. of ten happened).

Well, what are the ratings doing? How do they compare to previous years and other syndicated daytime shows?

Since Meredith left, the show has lost 0.5 rating points, going from 2.3 to 1.8 now. When the syndicated show started, it would draw about a 3.0. Nowadays, it's not even among the 25 highest-rated syndicated TV programs. The more important thing that speaks against renewing Millionaire, I think, is how well Family Feud is doing. In the last couple of years, it went from being virtually a goner to coming close to Jeopardy, which is at 6.3. Celebrity Name Game has a 1.2 share, but it is much cheaper to produce (as is Family Feud, of course). All of these factors make renewing Millionaire relatively unattractive for ABC. If they get the impression that replacing it with one of their other shows will get them the same or similar ratings, at a fraction of the costs, we might as well start writing our eulogies.
