What were the first countries to pick up Millionaire before the U.S.? Obviously the UK was the first, and Australia picked it up before the U.S. Any others?

Well, Here is a list with the first 5 countries to get Millionaire, With the air date of Episode one; 1. U.K (September 4, 1998) 2. The Netherlands (Feburary 6, 1999) 3. Australia (April 18, 1999) 4. Spain (April 19, 1999) (YEs there was just a day seperating Australia and Spain.) 5: U.S.A (August 16, 1999)
Well, The netherlands beat us to millionaire, but no one beat us to Deal or No Deal (Created in The Netherlands, bought to Australia 3 years later.)

I also realize, you know what the funny (but can also be kind of sad) thing is? Out of the first five, only two of them are still on the air. That's not all, I believe Australia and US are now the two longest running franchises. UK Millionaire lasted 15 years, 5 months, and a week. US and Australia have already surpassed it.

I'd come at that from the other direction. Of the five oldest Millionaire franchises, remarkably two of them are still on the air. Juggernaut runs like Wheel, Jeopardy and Price have had are not the norm. 3-5 years is a very successful run for a game show. 16 puts you in the juggernaut category.

I've watched so many game shows (including repeats) that only lasted a few years but did successful during their time. Besides ratings, there can be many other reasons why a game shows eventually goes off the air.

It is always a shame to see shows go down after a long run, however one thing is clear; the Millionaire franchise has done amazingly well and the iconic brand deserves to go down in history books. I find the Australia and Spain fact quite interesting too!
