Since a new member has taken to the shoutbox to vent about today's Millionaire, I'm starting a thread about it.
Today featured an 18 year old contestant named Charlie Blatt. She has a game show history, appearing on a Kids Week episode of Jeopardy, where she finished third place.
Questions are copy/pasted from wwtbambored.com.
Question 1 – With names like “Lennon, Balzac and Caravaggio, most of the craters on Mercury pay tribute to famous, musicians, authors and whom?
A. Emperors
B. Artist
C. Popes
D. Mob Bosses
Charlie uses her Plus One to determine that Caravaggio is in fact an artist.
Question 2 – Celebrating their local fauna, cars’ license plates in the Canadian Northwest Territories are shaped like what?
A. Penguins
B. Siberian tigers
C. Sea turtles
D. Polar bears
Charlie jumps the question because, although she rules out Siberian tigers and sea turtles, she believes that penguins are native to Canada as well as polar bears. So that's two questions with two lifelines down.
Question 3 – What long-running television show has mercilessly killed off one of its main characters nearly 100 different times? You bastards!
A. Two and a Half Men
B. Grey’s Anatomy
C. South Park
D. American Idol
Charlie talks her way through it, but seemingly only arrives at the correct answer of "South Park" due to the "You bastards!" hint, leading her to what she thinks is the "offensive show" on the list.
Question 4 – Before his untimely death, Tupac Shakur was reportedly engaged to the older sister of what actress?
A. Gabourey Sidibe
B. Amy Adams
C. Jessica Alba
D. Rashida Jones
Charlie asks the audience, who point her to Rashida Jones. All lifelines are now gone.
Question 5 – In the 1830’s, Englishmen John Wheeley Lea and William Henry Perrins invented what condiment, known to the Spanish as “salsa inglesa”?
A. Tartar sauce
B. Mayonnaise
C. Worcestershire sauce
D. Ketchup
Charlie parses the question nicely and comes up with Worcestershire sauce.
Question 6 – George Gallop rose to fame when his presidential poll contradicted a rival’s that predicted a landslide for Alf Landon over whom?
A. Franklin D. Roosevelt
B. Dwight D. Eisenhower
C. Teddy Roosevelt
D. John F. Kennedy
Charlie determines that Eisenhower ran against Adlai Stevenson, Kennedy ran against Nixon, and FDR ran against Herbert Hoover, so it must be Teddy Roosevelt. But she forgot that FDR ran for president four times, and not all of them were against Hoover.
So Charlie gets $1,000, and gets to watch Terry Crews high-five the audience and do his happy dance.
Caravaggio is an artist, penguins are not arctic, Tupac dated Quincy Jones's daughter, and FDR ran for president several times. I don't think those questions are too unfair, even for an 18 year old. And she knew going into the show that the questions were not going to be catered to her age bracket. So onetime685, I have to say you are overreacting.
