To kick off the summer, ABC has premiered two new shows that will be part of a block called Sunday Funday. After the first two episodes of these two shows, I believe that ABC has finally found some major summer hits.
The first show is Celebrity Family Feud. That's right. The classic game show is back to its original network. Steve Harvey of course is hosting and Burton Richardson is returning as the announcer. The show is the same as the syndicated version except that there are two games in each episode and some games could take less than 4 rounds if necessary. The winning celebrity team of each game will play fast money for $25,000 for their favorite charity. Regardless of the outcome, all celebrity participants receive a donation to their charity. The show is a lot funnier thanks to the celebrities. The games could take longer because of Steve's reactions to the teams' answers.
These are the celebrity teams that have competed in the past two episodes:
Anthony Anderson vs. Toni Braxton
Monica Potter vs. Curtis Stone
NFL Stars: NFC vs. AFC
Dancing with the Stars Pro Dancers vs. Bachelor/Bachelorette Contestants
The second show is Battlebots. This is a revival of the original Comedy Central series, but it's a lot better and more personal. The show is simple. 24 teams compete in a season long tournament. In each match two of the teams' robots battle for 3 minutes. If one of the robots can't move, the robot is knocked out and the winning team moves on. If both robots survive after the 3 minutes are up, the judges decide the winner by Agressiveness, Strategy, and Damage. The first two episodes were the qualifying rounds where the winners of each match will move on to the Round of 16 while the judges pick 4 other teams to move on as well.
I have to say. The first two episodes were so awesome. They even had former contestants from the original show competing. In episode two, there was a bit of controversy in 2 matches. One of them involved one team using a net, which is illegal in bot fighting. So, the judges decided to give the teams a rematch.
In conclusion, ABC has made a great move reviving Battlebots and bringing Family Feud to primetime. For Celeb Family Feud, 7.5. For Battlebots, 8. What do you guys think of Sunday Funday?
