Yes, it would appear that 500 Questions is making its way to the UK. At least it would appear so from a contestant call on the itv website. Funnily enough, it also appears that successful contestants for the show will have to travel to the USA for filming. Hopeful the UK version will iron out the major kinks in an otherwise promising show. I for one hope that issue surrounding the slow pace of the show is sorted out. So, what do you think? Will the show be successful in the UK? Keeping in mind the distinct lack of "primetime gameshows" as of late in the UK.

Hopefully they will learn from the mistakes the US version made. Picking up the pace will be the most important aspect - bearing in mind that they haven't even *asked* 500 questions overall during the first season. The rules could be simplified a little as well, they certainly didn't help with poor pacing - they hardly managed to explain them within the 7 episodes!!
Also, Richard Quest. Great man, not the best host. The growling voice didn't help either.
Let's see how it turns out. Might be something that UK TV needs right now.

So, while the Brits are still waiting for the show to come to ITV, we've seen the season premiere in Germany at the beginning of July.
At the first glance, "500 - Die Quiz-Arena" is quite similar to its US counterpart. Graphics are similar; there are some subtle differences between how the two sets look, in particular the host podium and a bunch of red "X"-shaped spotlights that are triggered by getting a strike; some of the music beds are missing and the audience is a little quieter. We get a little more background on the contestants, which is always welcomed. Jauch, known from German WWTBAM, was a safe and relatively good choice.
The rules are a mash-up between US Season 1 and Season 2. Ten categories with three questions in each, three strikes and you're out. There are Battle rounds and Top X Challenges, where X can be between 8 and 12. Lightning rounds are also there, but they work slightly differently. They are 10 questions long and are played randomly, twice during each round. 5 seconds per answer and only the first correct answer scores money. 50 questions required to bank the money in that round.
A 90-minute episode allows them to go through about 100 questions. Is that a lot? Well it means that getting through 500 questions would require about 5 episodes, so not terrible. However, it is clear that a little bit more effort in editing would allow them to fit in probably another 30 questions.
The big news is the jackpot. Anybody who will go through 500 questions will win an extra €2 million on top of all the money they banked during the game.
Though miles better than Season 1 in the US, the game still suffers from being slow. A little less banter and a little less waiting between the correct answer and choosing categories would help immensely.
It's still a good watch, but it's definitely more exciting as a weekly rather than being stripped across the week.
