Apologies in advance, this will be a long post.
I was at the time a 16 year old student at my high school. I was a year 11 student. One of my subjects for 2nd semester of 2015 was Community Studies.
1 course of Community Studies is a semester long. ( half year) You accumulate a total of hours in which the target is 60 hours of doing the chosen assignment. A good thing about Community Studies is that you can choose what you learn (providing it is something to do about the community of course)
This was my second time doing this subject. I passed the first time (doing a local school canteen volunteering position in my school) but apparently all Year 11 students needed to do a 2nd Community Studies. I was not happy about it but I accepted it eventually.
Before you can begin your actual work you need to work on a contract. Here was my completed contract with name of my teacher and my school removed STAGE 1 Community Studies 1252525281125252529.docx (71.29 KB))
NOTE: This was completed BEFORE i actually started anything so keep in mind some were changed or even scrapped all together.
After i did that there was the task of finding the computer program. I was going to choose this one www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsAVC7DSSGg but the program was no longer available to download. I was worried until FlaminOne brought out this better one
www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMy9ZzxjxDQ
I instantly downloaded it the moment i saw it available.
NOTE : I did NOT give this program to anyone else, i just used it for the basis of this assignment.
I was going to download the OpenGL Super Millionaire program but decided to go against it because i removed FFF from my show for time reasons.
Next bit was fun. I got to create the questions used in making the program that would be used in the show. I removed most of the US questions and replaced them with Aussie questions. I then copied and pasted the program so i could have multiple question sets. I downloaded the program 6 times.
Next step for me was to open the application for contestants. I used SurveyMonkey to easily get across more people in my school.
The survey said stuff like what's your name, why should you get on the show and who will be your Phone-A-Friend.
I soon discovered that SurveyMonkey was not the best option to get interest in people. Although i did get genuine applicants, i also got idiots who gave me funny answers (not genuine) or downright rude answers with some swear words.
As i was getting applications, I was practicing how to use a camera.
After that, i created a poster that I made multiple copies of to advertise the show. Unfortunately i was told that my original plan to do it in the PAC (which has seats for the audience to sit on) was not available. They offered a smaller place called the Lecture Theatre. I accepted that offer.
I decided to get the prizes after the show. That way it would be cheaper for me. I was wanting to offer 9 Tim Tams + $10 as the top prize but my Community Studies teacher said "You can't offer money as a prize". I settled on 9 Tim Tams as the top prize.
After that i got 1 friend each of the chosen contestants to come to the show as a Phone-A-Friend (because anymore would have taken too much time)
After all that, it was time to actually do the show. I was the host obviously. All contestants were students at my local school (although teachers and staff were free to apply as well)
I encounted glitches during the show in which the set of questions started from the first question again. It was a pain to get to the current question again but i did it.
I was only able to borrow one camera.
Another problem was to get the audience to be quiet. This show was made during a lunch time (with a bit of time beforehand to set up) so that was probably a reason why the audience could not keep quiet. They weren't giving away answers or anything like that, they just could not shut up.
The first contestant did ok. He got up to the $16,000 question. Had a go but failed and left with $1,000 dollars which meant he got a free chocolate bar.
2nd contestant got up to the $4,000 question. Had a go but failed. He got a free chocolate bar as well.
Last contestant of the show did not even get the $1,000 question right. Because of this he walked home with nothing.
Then the school bell rang to signal time ran out. No need for the klaxon then.
And that concluded the show.
Next part was to edit the show. So i had a look after the show on the camera to see what the show looked like and the worst happened. There was NO FOOTAGE recorded. After thinking in my head "How did this happen?" I worked out that i pressed record before the show begun and the teacher (who helped me set up on the day) pressed record as well, unknowing to the teacher, that stopped the recording. It was a shame i had no footage to work on editing to make the final version of the show.
But i had a back up plan. I got people who I knew turned up to the show to give me feedback. I made a few
I printed a few copies of this feedback sheet because as you know already, SurveyMonkey was clearly not the best place.
The people who did give feedback said stuff like this.
"I liked it because it was funny."
"You pushed through the technological glitches like there was no problem."
"Sometimes the audience got a bit loud but that was not your fault."
For this Community Studies i got a B+, easily passing.
Quick notes before this post is done : I was inspired to create my own show based on Divvy's shows and anime convention shows.
I also plan to do another show this year but this time with (willing) teachers as contestants. Hopefully a camera can properly record it so i can show it to you guys.
