Hi!
I see that there are a few threads about the late Millionaire - Play It! attraction from Disney, which I was a big fan of myself. Over the years, I was able to make it into the hot seat twice, and i Have to say that it was the most fun you could have in Disney (and most nerve-wracking for that matter.)
I still have all of the prizes I accumulated from the playing the game, and have several photos as well that I've attached to this message in case anyone was ever wondering what you actually won for playing the game.
I only personally made it to the 125,000 point question, so my top pin prize was 64,000. However, over the years I managed to acquire the rest of the prizes from big winners that were (for some reason) willing to part with them. These images include:
- All Pins (100 - 1 Million)
- Lanyard
- "I was a complete stranger" button (from being the phone "stranger" outside the attraction for the lifeline.
- 1,000 Point Cap
- 32,000 Point Polo Shirt
- 1,000,000 Point Leather Jacket
- 1,000,000 Point Medallion
- Confetti (streamers) from an actual Million Point Win I witnessed on one trip.
- Various other collectable pins from the attraction
- Fastpasses from the attraction
- Cast-Only "I was in the hotseat" card with mini-medallion.
Some interesting tidbits about the prizes:
The back of each prize pin was colored according to difficulty of the question set. 100 - 1,000 was black, 2,000 - 32,000 was silver, and 64,000 - 1 Million was gold.
The Million Point Pin is uniquely engraved on the back with the number of the pin (given in numerical order each time they are won)
When you completed your game, you were required to sign a prize receipt/waiver indicating the Fair Market Value of the prizes you received (for tax purposes.) The FMV of each plateau was:
- 1,000 Points ($67.50)
- 32,000 Points ($170.00)
- 1,000,000 Points ($4,470.40)
Any FMV winnings exceeding $599 in one calendar year were required to be reported to the I.R.S. with a Form 1099. The attraction kept a valid count of all of your winnings in the event you played the hot seat game more than once a year.
Contestants who played the hot seat game and won 500,000 points or less were subject to a 30 day blackout period where they could not play the game. Contestants winning 1 Million points were subject to a 365 day blackout period. Contestants could, at their discretion, decline to sign the receipt/waiver after completing their game. They would not receive their prizes, but they would be eligible to play the hot seat game again immediately if they qualified.
Below are the pictures I promised. Enjoy!
