Would it shut down, or what?
Thanks, Stellex

Seeing that a lot of people on this forum are not from the US, three of the four US-specific sub-sections are pretty quiet, and many of the guys from the US do not watch the current show, I don't think so. It's the staff's (or ultimately, RegisFan's) decision, obviously, but it wouldn't make sense to me. People haven't stopped collecting stamps, even though nobody really writes letters anymore. The format keeps evolving as long as it is broadcast around the world, and cancelation doesn't mean the show won't come back. As long there are still fans of the show, this site has a reason to continue. And looking at the RPGs and the Creativity section, interest and enthusiasm persist. It's not like there was a mass exodus when the UK version, the mother ship, if you will, got the ax.

I feel it is only a matter of time before US WWTBAM is cancelled. It is a miracle that they managed to renew the license for the 2016-2017 season. I feel if the US version goes and the Australian version goes (they get beaten in the ratings almost every weekday by The Chase Australia), there would be a donimo effect, all of WWTBAM's versions would go as well. After US and Australia, what country's version is the biggest currently on the air in the world?
Thank goodness for YouTube though eh?
Sorry, I went a bit off track. I hope this site can continue for many more years at least. Even if US WWTBAM gets cancelled.

After US and Australia, what country's version is the biggest currently on the air in the world? Success in influential markets won't hurt the program elsewhere, but I don't think the effect is quite as drastic. International success is primarily significant when it comes to selling the rights. You want a nice client list. It might be an incentive for the question whether to bring the show back after a hiatus. But if a country's version is successful, why would the cancelation elsewhere affect the local broadcaster? Regular viewers care very little if the show is canceled on the other side of the globe. You are right, though, this is off-topic. There are other threads where we can discuss this. Sorry, Stellex!

No problem, haha! I just wanted to know what would happen. I'm not currently a big fan of the current WWTBAM in the great old USA with Chris Harrison -- in my opinion, even though he's young and cool, he's not that really as good of a host as either Meredith or Regis were. If I had a choice, I would really want Meredith to return to the show for its 15th season.
On the topic of the 15th season, some other things could be changed to produce some rather drastic (but good) results. 50-50, even though while nostalgic, really needs to go. Most of the time (75% and up) the two choices that are removed are the ones that the contestant has most likely already ruled out. 50-50 could be replaced with Jump the Question again, or maybe even a modified version of Switch/Cut the Question.

A long as there are fans of Millionaire, this community will continue to exist. The forum isn't tied to one specific version of the show or type of fan - it's for anyone who wants to discuss any aspect of WWTBAM!

Was this a complaint for you during the ABC Millionaire days as well? It functioned exactly the same way then. I'll agree, I like the random 50:50 of Meredith's version better, but I think even a rigged 50:50 where a guy backstage is listening for what answers to eliminate is better than JTQ.

How so? How in any way is 50:50 better than JTQ? Sure, 50:50 gave you some better choices and helped rule out bad ones, while all at the same time keeping the same pace of the game. JTQ is better in the same fashion, except if it is brought back, it should only be allowed to be used once, instead of twice.

50:50 keeps with the original intent of the game. Answer Fifteen (or however many) Questions, Win One Million Dollars. Lifelines should aid you in Answering Fifteen Questions, not give you chances to get out of answering them.
Never mind that JTQ would be horribly broken with the current format. What happens if you jump the $50,000 question? Any solution for that problem would make for clunky television.

However, if JTQ was actually implemented in the next season / season 15 it would probably have some strict mechanics to go along with it. It could also work like Switch / Cut the Question, which instead of jumping over the cash value, you get an entirely new question while still staying at the level you're on. JTQ probably wouldn't be allowed to be used on the last level of the first round (Q10). In the second round, it probably would be replaced with a more fair and useful lifeline such as in this case, 50:50, or even the return of Double Dip. What do you think?

Why have a lifeline with clunky mechanics like that when 50:50 works just fine on every question? Millionaire is a game that thrives on how simple it is. No need to complicate things.
