He had never heard of Sid Grauman, he had never heard of this 'Chinese Theatre', so he chose French on the basis that France was full of culture and entertainment at the time, which was wrong.

Haha yeah it is for both points, but I didn't post this video. If it really bothers you, I downloaded it and just cut the first 1 sec from the sound so it fell back in place.

This week (Starting Monday, 18 October 2010), there will be a big winner - it could actually be the $1 Million winner - as there is a scene with gold confetti and lots of 0's on the backscreen, but it could also be $250,000 (more likely). Will keep you updated!

I like this version because it bring a big suspense. But I don't understand: when a contestant passes the question, the last level is removed (1 000 000$ question,...)?

No, the upper levels are removed only if a contestant gets it wrong (and is eliminated, as a result).
If the 6 contestants use their Pass, then the first is coming back while the top prize is still there.

They are calling it "Big Winner's Week".
Monday: Reached $100,000 (Q13 out of 15), but fell down to $1,000.
Tuesday: Won $250,000 (Q14 out of 15). A rare moment (equivalent to a $500,000 win)
Wednesday: Won $1,000
Thursday: Won $50,000
Friday: Won $50,000

This is the end of "Big Winner's Week", with a rare $250,000 win and 2x $50,000 which brings this week up to $352,000. In hindsight, not as impressive as this week in US Millionaire, which received far less advertising, but seeing Hot Seat uses a smaller scale money tree, it is still a rare amount to be won in a week. If it was played with the clock-US Millionaire money tree, then the total for this week would have been $710,000  Please note that I am not covering every Hot Seat week like joacen is with US Millionaire - I only did it because it was specifically advertised as "Big Winner's Week". I don't mind the format I mean it's fast-paced and exciting; However I do have to say that it is unfair at times. A couple of weeks ago a guy answered the questions from like 4-12 does all the hard work, and then got one wrong, then the next person steps in answers one question and instantly wins $50,000, it's so bad they should at least give them like $500 or $1,000 for trying. They should also get rid of the timer from the $20,000 question to the $1,000,000 question coz I actually thought there was supposed to be no timer on the MDQ but either way I agree with Romeijnland let them fall back on $10,000 if they get it wrong but they'd probably go broke lol.

You think, based on the timer structure (almost exact duplicate of US season 7/8), that they would institute a time bank for the MDQ like they did in the US...

Yeah that's true but they probably won't though... Does anyone have any idea where to get the Millionaire 'Whizz Kids' special that was on at the beginning of the year? Or did anyone record it?

UPDATE: On Tuesday 10/5/2011, the team made it to Q14 with the $1 Million still in play, with a young student, who had answered 8 questions without passing, in the Hot Seat. The question he needed to answer to get to the $1 Million was: What species of bird was the dodo most related to? A: Pigeon B: Turkey C: Peacock D: Ostrich After initially ruling out "peacock" and "ostrich", time was ticking down and he locked in "B: Turkey", moments before recalling that it looked similar to a pigeon. The answer was in fact "A: Pigeon", so he got the question wrong, was eliminated and the top prize dropped from $1 Million to $250,000. The lady who went up next got the $250,000 question wrong, and since it was now the final question, walked away with $1,000. A little disappointing  |
