About 4 years ago, GMA7 created what they so called an "original" Filipino game show called "Picture Picture", hosted by Ryan Agoncillo.
(Sorry if this seems to be a long commentary)
On several occasions before it debuted in the network, GMA7 expected it to become an international franchise. But let me tell you a little commentary on the show.
It's basic premise is that 4 players will work as a team to reach the top prize of P500,000 through 10 levels.
P10,000
P20,000
P40,000
P60,000
P70,000
P80,000
P100,000
P200,000
P300,000
P500,000 (top prize)
Bold amounts are guaranteed sums and the not bolded amounts are nominal amounts-they cannot be won.
By the way, you might ask why am I quoting the original??
It is because it just looks like a ripoff of a lot of game shows and I will also have commentaries on problems on the show, particularly in the following instances:
1. The money ladder, when I look at it looks like "Millionaire" Philippine Version and more or less the increments are not properly distributed well enough.
2. There are lifelines on this show, by the name of "backups" along the way. They are:
a. Save pic--If the team captain posted the wrong answer, the team will be asked another question of the same money value.
Notice that Save pic just looks like a combination of Switch the Question from "Millionaire" and "Save" from "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?"
b. Twin Picks: The players may post two answers out of the three choices.
This is just copied from the Double Dip of "Millionaire"
3. The way in which each question is played looks like "Greed" in which the team captain is the one responsible for finalizing the answer.
4. The show also has an equivalent "Is that your Final Answer?" in the line of "Shall we post it", the host asks it to team captain whenever to lock in an answer
5. After every 3 questions in the game. The game will undergo into a "Greed Terminator" Style elimination known as Kick out Question one question is asked by the host and when the Host says "Swipe!", the player who gets to buzz in first gets to answer, if that player is right, he earns immunity from elimination and gets to decide which player will be taken off the show.
6. Should the final level be reached after the last "Kick Out question", at this point there will only be one player left, will choose from 3 vague/ blurred picture categories and once a category is chosen, the player's objective is to identify 5 objects in 1 minute. If he gets it all correctly, the player wins P500,000. If not, P100,000+(P10 000*number of objects identified correctly)
*In the final round, this is where it goes with a lot of issues, sometimes the 5 questions to be identified could be a stack of super easy pictures or a totally brutal set of pictures which doesn't justify that it's a top prize question and there are a number of occasions where here, it was too easy to get.
7. In the first 9 questions ( including 3 "Kick Out Questions" so techically 12 questions), the questions are just (sorry to say this) utterly stupid and lame. Most of the questions are super easy even for a high level question (I could have forgiven the questions until P60,000 but higher than that, the questions are still very easy and most of the questions are "What do you call this animal/ thing/ person?" I mean, they cannot set out questions difficult and creative enough.
My comment: This show is a total failure...Sorry, but the fact that it is not a good ripoff show to watch and it doesn't bring out climax and thrill that enough. I will be totally shocked if this would be an international franchise, but the formatting of the show just seems off. The combination of the elements are just not solid enough. the only thing I could appreciate is the set especially that LED and glass tubing down the floor. Lame format, too easy questions, hands down.
It would have been better if they just acquired "The Chase". That would have brought their ratings up. And besides, there are a lot of exemplary Filipino geniuses out there.
