According to rules that potential contestants are receiving, it looks like there's a new twist to the upcoming season of the U.S. syndicated version of WWTBAM. The ten highest winning contestants of the first 45 episodes of the season will be invited back to the show to get to play for one million dollars. By opting to play for the million, they forfeit their total prize money and risk dropping back down to the safe havens. They won't have any lifelines to help them, either. Also, once one contestant wins, the event is over.
I have to admit, as exciting as it seems to give so many people a chance to win one million dollars, this feels a little hollow to me. I mean, I'll have a lot of fun watching it, don't get me wrong. But the contestant who ends up leaving with the top prize won't actually have earned it like the other big winners did. It just seems like a stunt similar to what the U.S. version of "Deal or No Deal" did with its "Million Dollar Mission," and that was heavily criticized by game show fans and television critics alike. What do you all think?

Maybe.... but believe me, no-one's ever won the million dollars since 2003, and if this plan works, the stalemate generated by the question difficulty will finally be broken! At least, I think it's a stalemate... anyway, it sounds like exciting!

But I had a thought... if Ken Basin hadn't got his question wrong, would this not have happened? Would the questions instead have been made slightly easier, like the old days?!

It's not guarenteed as if no one gets it right, no one wins the million. I mean "Deal" had been on the air for 4 years in prime time and never had a millionaire till mid-season 4. Millionaire's been on for 10 years and has never had a millionaire since '03, double the years that Deal or No Deal hasn't had one. It is clear that syndie millionaire is desperate.

True, however, it is stated in the game rules that if no one wins the million, such competition may resurface later in the season.

Won't the contestants have a choice not to answer and walk away?
