I might get shot for this... But I actually LOVED the Shuffle Soundtrack. It was a new season, and they wanted to give everything an update, and to me, the new soundtrack AND the Shuffle Format was actually BETTER than the Classic format and Soundtrack. The Shuffle format brought a new degree of strategy and surprise, and the new soundtrack did a good job of covering that! Do you like pineapple on pizza too?

To be fair, chrisharrisonftw is sharing his honest opinion. While I don't fully agree with it, I can definitely say that the Shuffle soundtrack was an interesting attempt to reform the emotion during the game, but had also taken quite a lot of the main priorities from the classic soundtrack away. With the current soundtrack, they DID try to bring a few of these priorities back, which had worked quite decently. Although I personally believe that the Classic format was superior, I really respect his opinion and do agree on a lot of his points, since they mostly justified his statement.

Never said he wasn't, never said he didn't. Doesn't mean I can't poke fun at him for such a hot take.

If I were EP, I'd risk royalties to keep the old music.

What is the general consensus on the current mid tier Millionaire music? Does anybody think it would sound better with just heartbeat music, eliminating the repetative piano sound?

The current mid-tier music with the repetitive piano is one of the laziest music cues in game show history. The rest of the soundtrack, while it pales in comparison to the original score and its offshoots, is at least competently written. The piano track is stunning in its mediocrity.

Even now I still can't understand why they removed the classic music and used the new one instead... I don't hate it, but it actually sounds generic and doesn't fit Millionaire.

It probably had something to do with cost. The music they have now, they own outright. With the Strachan's music, they have to pay royalties. Doesn't mean I've got to like it, though!

It probably had something to do with cost. The music they have now, they own outright. With the Strachan's music, they have to pay royalties. Doesn't mean I've got to like it, though! I think that could be true. The music of Millionaire was very influential to the emotion which was present in the questions. With the new music, they didn't implement much of that emotion, but rather gave the contestant the feeling of getting closer to the harder questions. The original cues were more focused on the rising pressure for the contestant, since the difficulty became harder the further they progressed, thus capturing the emotion for these particular situations perfectly. But when the show was majorly changed, they had to bring in a certain new feeling in the cues when contestants would be playing WWTBAM. It wasn't bad, of course - but it did not have the same emotional impact as the classic soundtrack. So I indeed agree with you that in case the producers decide to bring back the original soundtrack, they would have to pay a huge amount of money. EDIT: I would like to add one more comparison between the classic and the modern US soundtrack. In my opinion, the low-tier question cues are executed properly on both sides, as they capture the feeling of the contestant facing relatively easier questions, which can usually be answered without many problems. As for the mid-tier question cues, the ones used in the classic version have a much greater execution, since they symbolize that this time, the questions are not as easy as before and the contestant can either win and make a greater progress or lose a lot of money. They were also focusing on the rising pressure that the contestant was starting to feel, and added more to the suspense and emotion, which was one of the most important and fundemental aspects of Millionaire's soundtrack. While the modern soundtrack did implement the seriousness of the questions into the cues, it unfortunately was not executed as well as in the original one. The high-tier questions are also better in the original soundtrack, since they were more evolved. In the modern one, you can somehow hear the resemblance between the mid-tier question cues and high-tier ones. The classic ones added more pressure and more seriousness to the contestant's situation, and while do like both, I have to admit that the classic one was much more emotional and had a greater impact to the show than the current soundtrack. But I would indeed like to add the following question to the discussion: If the classic cues should be brought back, would if have an affect on the current Millionaire format of the U.S.?
