As I am not from the US and this question is really a pop culture thing, I don’t think the Internet would be much of a help directly. I am more interested in the opinions of people who actually live in the US and have seen Regis elsewhere, except Millionaire. Is Regis considered hot-headed and irritable? Is he generally respected or is he like a more cartoonish game show figure? I’d like to know because I saw Regis in an episode of How I Met Your Mother, where he plays himself and they seem to suggest that Regis is actually a very irritable guy.

Well, he is actually more known for co-hosting a talk show with Kelly Ripa called Live with Regis and Kelly. Though he retired in 2011 many people respect him. As far as I am concerned I do not believe Regis is hot-headed or irritable. I did not watch his talk show very often, but I always found him to be kind and genuine. He has been in show business since the 1960's and I believe currently holds the record for most time spent in front of a camera.

Regis is known for being one of the most personable people in show biz. One of his schticks is to pretend to get worked up about something and start shouting, but it’s all for fun. He actually plays it up, partly because he was inspired by Dana Carvey’s “out of control” impersonation of him.

I didn't watch much of Regis on Live, but I did watch Regis on Millionaire. Boy, did I watch Regis on Millionaire. Regis is in many ways responsible for my desire to be myself on my gaming channel instead of producing a character, because Regis didn't have to pretend to be what he was. Regis was Regis, on and off the screen. That's what endears him to me even now. EDIT: That realization is also what inspired me to start hosting games of Super Millionaire for my community on Twitch. DOUBLE EDIT: Damn it, I keep missing that these threads are dead. I'm sorry. I'm just so Regis-happy that I can't help it.  |
