Today marked the beginning of the season 8 changes for the U.S. syndicated version of Millionaire! We were all expecting the new money tree, which really does increase the amount of cash almost all contestants walk out the door with by a significant amount ($10,000 by question 7!).
The unexpected change, however, came in the form of a few new sound effects. The opening song from the cold open (originally from Super Millionaire), the "Millionaire Menu" beeping sound, and the later tier "correct answer" cues are all slightly altered- they sound deeper, as a matter of fact!
Also, the Tournament of 10 continues! I can't wait to see how all the changes pan out for the show. Make sure to tune in and share your opinion of the changes on the boards.

Not to challenge or argue with you, but it's just the same music, they just slowed it down a little bit.

...but the sound operator was also having trouble with the music and was quickly fxed before too long.
I did think that it was a little weird that some of the cues were slower than others but I'm glad it got fixed.

Upon reviewing my recording, I think you're right. I originally thought the cues were reorchestrated versions of the old cues, but I think it really was just a case of equipment malfunctioning or something similar. A one-time deal.
Still, it's a fun Millionaire oddity.

Has there been anything saying that the new tree is just for the Tournament of 10 series?

Yeah I'm excited for this season as well and the Tournament of Ten! I think if any game show deserves to aggressively obtain a millionaire THIS is the one. I mean SIX years without a million dollar winner, with some near misses?!?!? Smart move by Michael Davies and at the right time where it doesn't compromise the integrity and difficulty of the show (NOT gimmicky). I like the contestant tease intros with Meredith, deriving from the anniversary episodes, as well a hard preview question given during the commercial break for you to tune in to the next episode! The changing of the money tree for the first 10 questions reminds me of Supermillionaire and I think was long overdue but nevertheless still pretty nice. I think they should include more of the sweeping camera shots from the anniversary episodes but other than that it's all good! By the way, congratulations to Meredith for winning the 2009 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host!

www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyw-FaZmYcc shows the introduction to the new money tree. As to the sound oddity, i noticed it too in Alan Carver's appearance. I took the 25,000 select and 50,000 music and used Adobe Soundbooth and just altered the pitch by about -2 to make it sound identical. I'm glad they got it fixed. Can't wait to see the top 10. They will probably get at least 3 in per show. I wonder how hard or esoteric the questions will be

on that episode, there was a little issue with the music the day they taped that show so that's what was going on with the music in that video.
