Keshet, the production house who created the "Rising Star" format, brings a new game show format called "Who's on Top?". It is a unique and up-lifting new entertainment format where the stakes are high! Instantly eye catching, it sees three contestants suspended in “air pods” which are scaling in-studio towers five stories high, faced with fun trivia questions to which only two answers apply e.g. “more” or “less”, “true” or “false”. If answered correctly, the contestant’s air pod springs to life and quickly ascends to the next level of the tower accumulating money as it goes, but if wrong, they plummet all the way to the basement level, leaving only their head peeking above the floor until the next round. The goal of the game is to keep climbing and make sure you’re on top, because only the player who is at the highest level will make it to final round and play for the chance to win all the money accumulated by the three players throughout the game.
The questions posed by the host and his comic sidekick are about things we’d all love to know. To get the answers right will require a combination of common sense, general knowledge and creative thinking. For example: “Is Barack Obama’s salary more or less than $200,000?”, “It takes a watermelon 15 seconds to reach the ground from the top of the Empire State building. True or False?”. All the questions are based on fact and are occasionally demonstrated with video evidence or by inviting a surprise special guest into the studio. Fun and unpredictable, you never know who might show up, and when.
In this show, every question counts, there are no lifelines, so the game can change dramatically at any given moment. It’s a comical, fast-paced and light-hearted format which is fun to play and even more fun to watch. Packed with guests, eye-opening clips and a comical hosting duo, Who’s on Top? is a real ride for viewers, whether is it scaled up with celebrities or played by contestants from the general public.
so far, only Indonesia has aired its own version, besides the original Israeli, of course. I think, the U.S. must have its version of this game show, and it could be on either NBC or CBS, as ABC still has rights with Millionaire.
What do you think? do you agree this format should have its U.S. version?

It‘s so gimmicky and none of the additional stuff adds anything substantial to the quiz part.

I mean... "Scream if you know the answer" is a thing that existed. People hated that too apparently! It sounds like the gimmick is the show but that's what all the tv is about these days. As light entertainment, it probably works. As a serious game show - no, but it was never meant as one.

Riveting. a bit yes, but it also feels more like you're in a lift/an elevator without a door and only bordered by an LCD screen in front of you. if you're right, you are lifted up, but if you're wrong, you will fall down and you will lose all your earnings...

As light entertainment, it probably works. As a serious game show - no, but it was never meant as one. I totally get that it doesn‘t try to be the pinnacle of intellectual television, and that‘s completely fine. There‘s nothing better than a silly show to wind down. The thing that annoys me about this show is how lazy the format is. Now if they had combined it with Snakes and Ladders, for example, the elevators would at least make some sense. Light entertainment can be done smartly, too. Take "The Wall": It‘s basically not much more than gigantic Plinko, but by adding little twists and turns, they created a pretty decent show. Of course, I have not seen the show yet. It might be a revelation, who knows? I‘m just really not convinced. I’ll take a look at the Israeli version later. If it‘s unexpectedly brilliant, I‘ll be sure to mention it here.

I am from Indonesia, by the way, so maybe I can provide you translation from some seconds/minutes of Indonesian footage...

I am from Indonesia, by the way, so maybe I can provide you translation from some seconds/minutes of Indonesian footage... Thank you for your offer, don't trouble yourself! I did find a couple of episodes from the Israeli version. If you search for the show's title in Hebrew (It's ?מי למעלה/Mi lemala?), you'll find the episodes. I understand some of it, but my Hebrew isn't good enough to be able to translate it, sorry. I stick with my initial verdict, though. It's very (almost too) flashy and futuristic, but ultimately there's nothing about the show that wows me or gives me a reason to keep watching. The game drags on until the person who happens to be highest goes on to the finale, without there being any sense of progression as one wrong answer sends the contestant down and they have to start from scratch. The final game is okay, I guess, but not exactly innovative either. And the music is massively annoying. It's just not my cup of tea. If other people like it, good for them. Anyway, I'm glad the game show genre is having a bit of a renaissance at the moment.

I was searching for the Israeli show using the international format's name, and of course I did not find any. thank you for your correction.
