I have been reading people's story about going to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. There is this one story who participated at the 10th Anniversary. This was his story.
I for my life can't figure this out why you need to raise your left hand in case for sneezing. Someone?

I'd say it makes editing the sneeze out easier. Wouldn't want to ruin a funny comment or anecdote with a loud "ACHOO" in the middle of it.

Who was required to raise their hand? Audience members or contestants? If it's the contestants, I'd guess it probably has something to do partly with what Gagamillionaire said but also for sound purposes. Sure, the microphones they have undoubtedly could handle the sound of a sneeze, it probably has something to do with the poor people that listen to the show backstage with headphones on. Sudden, unexpected, loud noises hurt your ears!

Very interesting. I recall no such instruction when I was on the show.

I'm willing to bet it's some sort of tradition.

The contestant were the one asked to raise their hand. Very interesting. I recall no such instruction when I was on the show. Exactly my concern. I felt like I would have know this if this is a common instruction.
