Iranian Millionaire - Barande Bash, as it is called — aired for 70 episodes in 2018 and 2019. To be clear, it is an absolutely official version of the show. Fully licensed with the Strachan music and official graphics. (You can watch a full episode on YouTube.) To prove that it is official, here are the opening titles. The logo animations even resemble the 2018 UK graphics. Why is it so crazy? Well, for starters, the host enters by being raised through the floor. Not just the host -- the contestants as well. The set is totally different from other versions. Why not decorate it with some nice flowers. They appear to be using the original format: 15 questions and the three original lifelines. They use the lovely club mix - “Is that your final answer?” - when going to break. See and hear it here. What they have got going for them is a GREAT looking host. His name is Mohammad Reza Golzar and he is an actor, singer and model. Barande Bash was banned from the air by Iranian authorities earlier this year because it was considered gambling. Muslim law does not allow that. But the official website is still live. And so it the official Instagram account.

Why do Muslims consider game shows gambling? Have they heard of that 1954 US ruling that declared game shows aren’t a form of gambling?

I'm going to be honest, they didn't credit anything from CPL, Sony Pictures Entertainment, 2waytraffic, anything at all to do with the current right holders.

Also the intro doesn’t look official. Other countries, like Nepal for example, have good-looking intros.

Why do Muslims consider game shows gambling? Have they heard of that 1954 US ruling that declared game shows aren’t a form of gambling? It's kind of weird... and remember, this is purely a semantic thing:
But remember that on each tier, you "win" that money of the level. (eg. You get question 1 right in the US, you win $500 (current values).) But each time you play on, you're risking it with a wrong answer. As asinine as that is, THAT could be considered gambling. US laws be damned, common sense be damned.

Why does Islam misconstrue that?

A game is considered gambling when the outcome is primarily determined by luck rather than skill. A slot machine is gambling because you have no influence over the outcome. It's just a matter of luck. But a lot of games are both a combination of luck and skill. In Millionaire you need to have a lot of general knowledge (=skill) but you also need the right questions to pop up (=luck). Same with Poker. That's often considered gambling, yet certain people seem to win more often than others.
Most countries have laws against (excessive) gambling. Except for a few US states, casino's are outlawed for example. So Islam is actually not that different in this regard. Just a little more strict in its interpretation.

Honestly, I don't think it's officially licensed. Yes, they use an intro with a very similar style to the international stuff. Yes, they use the rave music package. But the sound package actually comes from that well-known Russian forum with resources from game shows (you can tell by the opening sequence using a particular remix made by one of the members there). The graphics, well, some are fairly close to original, but not exactly original, and others are just taken out of thin air. Finally - the logo. I don't think the licensing allows that kind of variation on the logo from the original. I'm sure a quick e-mail to Sony would explain whether it is a licensed version or not, but ain't nobody got time for that!
Either way, it's the best *unofficial* version for sure. Much better than the Afghani "Shams Acadmey" production that was filmed in somebody's garage or kitchen. And yea, the gimmicks are cray. The host/contestant entrance is so epically pointless (or pointlessly epic) that it's laughable. But somehow, I couldn't say I dislike that version and be genuine about it.
Shame about the ban. But don't be fooled - Islam has nothing to do with it. Given that many Muslim countries have aired or still air the show, it's more of a political power play. That's not for this topic, though.

the thing that is forbidden in Islam is the premium phone call. according to Islam, contests like game shows should only be funded by third parties such as sponsors and the production team. for the prize to be "halal", the contestants should not spend a single penny in order to be able to participate.

Interesting comments, @tim0n, about whether it is an official version.
My thinking is this: it's likely that we will see more deviations from the strict format because that's the only way Sony can continue to make money off of a format that is near the end of it's life. Countries that have not licensed it before likely have not done so because they think certain aspects don't work culturally. Giving local producers more freedom -- like how Wheel of Fortune looks different in every country -- allows Millionaire to expand to those new territories.
(That does not explain, however, why they use fan made music.)

Please note that the software displayed on the monitors is definitely different than the one that applies everywhere, in licensed versions of WWTBAM

If someone is still interested, here is the episode when Mohammad Kazem won Top Prize! (100 000 000 IRR) that my friend send me. It was on youtube before it got deleted. yadi.sk/i/yMiVOX6Qtl-ilQWinning moment is 30:35. For me this version isn’t official. It looks like a parody.
