Hey everyone!
Recently I've really gotten into the BBC 2 quiz show Only Connect, and so I've decided to run an RPG Version of the show here. I will give a quick breakdown of the rules for anyone who would like to play but is unfamiliar with the format:
Round 1: Connection Round
Round 2: Sequences Round
Round 3: Connecting Wall
Round 4: Missing Vowels Round
I think that's everything. I'm currently unsure whether to play this as individuals, or as teams as is done on the show, and so I've created a poll for people to let me know what they think the best way to do this would be. If you want to know more or put your name down to play, just comment below!
Recently I've really gotten into the BBC 2 quiz show Only Connect, and so I've decided to run an RPG Version of the show here. I will give a quick breakdown of the rules for anyone who would like to play but is unfamiliar with the format:
Round 1: Connection Round
- In this round, the player/team must try and guess the connection between four seemingly random clues.
- The player/team will pick a set of clues from the 6 groups of Egyptian hieroglyphs, those being Two Reeds, Lion, Twisted Flax, Horned Viper, Water and Eye of Horus.
- To start with, the first clue will be revealed. At this point, the player/team may buzz in and make a guess at the connection, or ask for another clue to be revealed by saying 'Next'.
- The player/team may see up to all four clues, but will receive more points the earlier they buzz in if they answer correctly.
- Buzzing in correctly after one clue will win 5 points, after two clues will win 3 points, after three clues will win 2 points and after all four clues will win 1 point.
- In this version for the RPG, the player/team will have a total of 72 hours to see as many clues as they would like, but they must buzz in with their answer before this time runs out.
- If the time runs out or the player/team guesses incorrectly, all four clues will be revealed if they have not been already, and the opposing player/team will get the chance to steal by then giving the correct answer. Doing so will win them 1 point, regardless of how many clues the first team revealed.
- A player/team will have no more than 24 hours to give me their answer if stealing.
- If neither team gives a correct answer, I will reveal the connection, but neither team will win any points.
- ONE set of questions shall be picture clues, however there will be no music round.
Round 2: Sequences Round
- Round 2 is similar to round 1, with the following exceptions:
- Instead of telling me the connection between the group, the player/team will have to tell me what would come as the fourth clue in the sequence.
- The team playing each set first will only be allowed to see up to three clues.
- If they answer incorrectly, the other team will be shown the first three clues, and will win 1 point if they can correctly tell me what would come fourth in the sequence.
- Point and timing system is the same as in Round 1.
- ONE set of questions shall be picture clues, however there will be no music round.
Round 3: Connecting Wall
- In this round, the team/player who went second in the first two rounds shall go first, and shall pick between the Lion and Water Walls.
- Behind each wall are 16 clues, which can be sorted into 4 groups of 4 connected clues.
- There may be red herring clues, or entire groups that could work, but there is only one truly correct solution to each wall.
- Each player/team can make as many guesses as they like, and they shall receive 96 hours to try and solve their wall.
- After a player/team has found 2 groups, they shall only have 3 lives to try and find the remaining groups.
- A player/team shall receive 1 point for every correct group they find, and uniquely to this version, if they find all 4 groups they will receive a bonus point for a total of 5.
- After either the wall has been solved, or the player/team has run out of time or lives, they shall be asked to tell me the connections between the four groups. They will receive a point for every connection they make, regardless of whether or not they solved that group. If a team gives all four connections, they will receive a bonus point for a maximum of 5.
- Therefore each team may get a total maximum score of 10 points on their wall.
- As an example, if a team correctly finds 2 groups, and all four connections, they receive 2+5=7 points.
Round 4: Missing Vowels Round
- In this round, teams will compete against each other to solve a series of well known people, places, things and phrases that have had the vowels removed, and the consonants re-spaced.
- When the clue is revealed, which ever team/player buzzes in first and correctly solves the clue shall receive one point.
- Buzzing in and then giving an incorrect answer shall lose a point, and the clue shall be passed to the other player/team.
- If a team answers incorrectly after having a clue passed to them, they shall not lose a point in this instance.
- The round shall come in categories, with each category having four clues in it.
- The round shall last for as many clues as can be fit in 72 hours.
- If the scores are tied at the end of round 4, the teams shall play a tiebreaker missing vowels clue. There shall be no category, but whoever buzzes in first and answers correctly will win a bonus point. If they answer incorrectly, they shall lose a point, and thus their opponents shall win the match.
I think that's everything. I'm currently unsure whether to play this as individuals, or as teams as is done on the show, and so I've created a poll for people to let me know what they think the best way to do this would be. If you want to know more or put your name down to play, just comment below!
