Okay, so. That moment. Here's the deal. It's clear what she meant to say and she just said the wrong thing. It's not like she said final answer to something entirely different because she read the question too quickly and then realized her mistake upon rereading afterwards. Which has happened before. She straight up got her words mixed up.
However, this HAS to be a one-off, and only a one-off that I am willing to begrudgingly accept because it is for charity. If anything, this reminds me of a previous controversy in the UK version involving celebrity contestants - they gave an incorrect answer to a million dollar Q and lost 468k GBP for charity. On what was a perfectly legitimate million dollar Q that should never have been thrown out. But they threw it out anyways because people would've given ITV all sorts of crap since that money was for charity and let them have another chance (they walked away with 500k).
But I can't help but acknowledge two things that this is setting a very dangerous precedent, because now it's out in the open that a final answer has been changed before. Remember the "Chewbacca defense" from South Park? We now have the "Nikkie Glaser defence". When the words "final answer" have always been a sacred part of this show's identity. There's a reason it's transcended the game show realm and become popular lexicon. "Final answer" means "final answer". This taints that a lot IMO.

Assuming you are referring to Laurence and Jackie Llewellyn-Bowen, their question was discarded because it was a bad question. It would have been discarded in any case.

If they let this happen again, they should let this contestant come back for a 2nd appearance if the show gets renewed and allows regular citizens to play again: youtu.be/mI5ijh15OYg

{Spoiler} Maybe had they done some editing, like editing it so it appeared to have been made on the fly, there’s be less blow-up. I’m still going to watch. There’s also the case of Gene Simmons. Lost before $32,000, but got the $32,000 nonetheless.

{Spoiler} The same thing that happened today happened with Vassilike Yiannoulis in 2004 during College Week, but that time, they ruled it incorrect and Meredith said, "Sorry, you said final answer."

I don’t like it. Charity or not, it jeopardizes the integrity if the show. Since they’re guaranteed $32k no matter what, give her the money but the first answer should have been accepted and move on to the next celebrity. Sorry, not sorry. They have set a dangerous precedence.

I didn't like it, either. Never before has this been done. Final answer means final answer. The incident of accidentally saying final answer for saying Denny's had a slam dunk breakfast instead of a Grand Slam breakfast is precedence. I guess if you're a celebrity playing for charity, you can get away with stuff.
The controversy not withstanding, I found Nikki Glaser to be really irritating. She seemed to ramble on and on about some story after the $200 question. Play the game.

I too saw the episode yesterday, I was literally shocked when final answer change moment came, they could've had changed the question and retook the scene instead, it would look better on TV from my point of view

Yeah, no. I wasn't a fan of it either. Like, I get why they did it, but I don't agree with it. As many other folks on here have pointed out, Denny's/Slam Dunk girl set a precedent. When you say "Final answer", it is your final answer. I mean, they're all guaranteed $32,000 anyway. The only thing she's lost is the right to play on after $32K (and the right to her lifelines, which is a shame since she hadn't touched a single one of them). Also, I agree with millionairenut. She was irritating. She kept ambling along casually through the questions (even the really easy ones) and consulting Dr. Drew for each of them. When I was watching it, around the time she got to $500, I thought to myself "Whatever unprecedented event is happening tonight, it's certainly not her making it to a million and winning/losing it. Maybe she'll bust out before $32K (not sure if that's ever happened before with another celebrity)." Turns out, I was almost right. Also, while I'm still beyond delighted that the show's back, the pacing of the show itself is beginning to get to me. I mean, I enjoy the banter between host and contestant and the contestant deliberating the answers, irrespective of whether it's celebrities or not, but I began to find myself thinking, "Get on with it." In the last two episodes of Kimmel Millionaire we've averaged at precisely 2 questions above the $32K mark (the really exciting bit, in my opinion). A typical Chris-era UK episode averaged 13. A typical Regis-era episode averaged 17. (Yes, I've done my research with this because I was so intrigued) Sure, those numbers would be down a tad for celebrity games (well, maybe just the Chris one), but even then, by those standards, this version of Millionaire is painfully slow. While (as some of you may know) I'm not a fan of Speedy Reege, I think kicking it into second or third gear now may do the show some good.

I am sure all of you have seen this interview, but it seems rather relevant right now. Starting at 1:12 youtu.be/6OrfDGbeSHY. I have a hard time critiquing this show because I want it to stay on the air so badly, but I agree with a lot of the comments that they are going to have to pick it up in order for people that arent huge fans to tune in. The first two episodes regarding the production have been rocky, including music cues being off, lighting, and Kimmel not being 100% on. I do think Kimmel will pick it up in the next episodes as he gets adjusted to the show, but everything seems like it has been rushed. Perhaps the virus threw them off and I hope ABC recognizes this and gives them a second chance. From what I have read the ratings have fallen this week, and them letting a contestant change a final answer is not what I would like them to advertise as a "never before seen moment". I'm not sure this was the right time for them to bring celebrities on. There has been a lot of pushback on social media about this. Regular contestants would have been a better idea. Overall, I think Jimmy will be great. So thankful they have brought the show back but they've got to pick it up.

Actually, it’s still the second-most watched show in ABC primetime. The extra ratings may’ve been Modern Family’s audience rooting for Stonestreet. But I’m still going to watch though.

Here's what I think.
Personally I think they've created a very sticky situation that might pop up to haunt them in the future. I'm also shocked they publicized this as much as they did, they hyped it up as if it was something major that everyone would look forward to, but it just really broke the whole game. I was actually really close to flipping the channel at that point to watch Chicago P.D. instead, but I stuck with Millionaire just to see where it went. I really truly disagree with the decision made by the "judges" there. She should've been sent home with the 32k and that should've been that, just like what they did with Gene Simmons in 2001. Overall, with the show being so slow and with Kimmel as host, I don't know if I'll watch the rest of this series. I really was hoping for something good but everything I've seen has been odd decision after odd decision. I do still hold out hope that if it comes back for a second series with regular contestants and not celebrities that it will be better, but I don't know...
And that's my final answer.

I also hope a situation like this never happens again. Otherwise, if they don’t get the “Slam Dunk” lady back for a second appearance, then that could lead to bad things for the American Millionaire; worse than any changes the syndicated version made in its final eleven years. And I’m sure that the decision wasn’t the “never-before-seen moment” ABC was hyping up.

While (as some of you may know) I'm not a fan of Speedy Reege, I think kicking it into second or third gear now may do the show some good. Maybe I'm misinterpreting this, but that doesn't sound right. Lets say you get lucky and start off a show with someone who is exactly at 32k. They get their 64k wrong. the next guy still has to answer 10 correctly to get to that point. And so does any other contestant, which is far from guaranteed. There have been entire weeks on syndicated Millionaire where contestants didn't even get to the $32/25k mark because of how brutal it was. I could see your typical Regis episode having ~3 (4 on a good day with no returnee) new contestants, so I could maybe see an average of 4-5 high level questions if lucky. About ~35 questions overall per show. That said, the Kimmel version is still unbearably slow. I've seen a greater rate of contestants per episode turnover in syndicated shows, and those were only 30 mins.
